Real Madrid are having one of the most shockingly poor seasons in recent memory.  It does leave one wondering could this have been predicted and if so how can it be fixed?

The entire history of Real Madrid is built on the foundation of one very principle thing.  Sucess.  Since the early days of the club Real Madrid have been the most dominant football club in history.  It’s why FIFA anointed them the club of the century.

The club has won the European Cup an unbelievable 12 times and appeared in the final on 15 occasions.  The next closest team is Milan with 7 titles and 11 total appearances.  To have nearly doubled their next closest competitor who isn’t even in the competition at the moment is something of a feat in itself.

What makes this recent turn of events even more shocking is that until recently Madrid were on maybe the finest run of form in their entire history.  They had won every single trophy possible in a calendar year.  The Champions League, La Liga, The Copa Del Rey, Spanish Cup and the Cup Winners Cup. A feat made more obviously difficult based of course off the fact that for the latter one needs to win the hardest trophy in world football once already simply to qualify.

That makes Madrid’s certain lack of achievement at the moment all that much more curious and yet we’ll have to examine it because of that very fact.

The first reason lies in their mental approach to not just the market but football itself.
