Pinch me, Everton just rejected £85m from Barcelona for Richarlison?!

I must be dreaming, surely Everton can’t be waiting for more than £85m…

The Premier League is very much a money-orientated place. There’s no surprise that the teams at the top of the table tend to be the biggest spenders in the transfer window. Everton aren’t quite the top calibre in the English top-flight but they want to be. This is why they invest heavily in the transfer window, including the £40m investment of Richarlison in 2018.

The Brazil international has had quite the ride since then and he has emerged as Everton’s best player, ageing at only 22 years old. That said, you can see why he is a fan favourite and the first name on the team sheet at Goodison Park.

Everton love their Brazilian so much that they were prepared to snub the biggest club in the world, Barcelona, from trying to acquire his services. Sky Sports have revealed that the Toffees received an incredible offer of 100m euros (around £85m) from Barcelona’s director of football, Eric Abidal, who appears to be a big fan of Richarlison. But Everton weren’t interested.

In many ways, this rejection should be applauded. Everton are not the richest club in the Premier League so any other side in their position would have jumped at the opportunity of a quick £85m. However, Carlo Ancelotti is eager to add to this group of players in his first transfer window, not deplete it.

There is still plenty of room for improvement as far as Richarlison is concerned. That said though, he is an excellent player at the age of 22. He is fast, skilful and he has a deadly eye for goal. He is very good in one on one situations too, since there is plenty of aplomb about him.

That said, it’s refreshing to see that Richarlison will remain a player of Everton and perhaps it just goes to show, times are worrying for Barcelona. They have until Friday to sign a striker, with Luis Suarez set for a lengthy spell on the injury bench.

Do you think Richarlison will ever join Barcelona or has his only chance gone?
