Manchester United appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager
Manchester United’s search for a new manager is over. Sort of.
The club announced they have appointed Ralf Rangnick as the new interim manager for the rest of the season. He is set to take over from Michael Carrick who took charge of the team against Villarreal in the Champions League and at Chelsea in the league.
In their official statement, United revealed that once his tenure as manager is over, the German will remain at the club and serve in a consultancy role for two seasons.
The former RB Leipzig manager knows he has a tall task ahead of him but is looking forward to the challenge.
“I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club,” Rangnick said. “The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team. Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”

Mike Phelan and the aforementioned Carrick will remain as part of Rangnick’s coaching staff but it is also expected that he will bring in some of his own people to fill out other roles.
Rangnick comes with a good reputation and many see him as the ideal person to right the ship for the remainder of the season. Once his stint as interim manager is over, he will be heavily included in the process to find a new, long-term replacement.
Until his visa situation is resolved, Carrick will stay in place as manager.
Manchester United also made sure to thank Lokomotiv Moscow, the club Rangnick was previously managing, for facilitating his arrival to Old Trafford.
