Arsenal: Arteta makes a late push to mend full-back issues

The full-back position seems to be Arsenal’s concern…

After unveiling the first signing of the Mikel Arteta era, Arsenal are hungry for more acquisitions. Pablo Mari was announced as an Arsenal player yesterday after joining on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo. The 26-year-old will undoubtedly help to solidify Arsenal’s defence which seems to have been plagued with injuries of late.

Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac have been nursing injuries which has forced Bukayo Saka out of position to fill the left-back slot. Hector Bellerin has also been on and off this season but he appears to be on the mend.

That said, Sky Sports have reported that a late push for Cedric Soares might be on. The Southampton full-back has been their main choice this season and he has been showing some good form for the Saints of late. That said, Arsenal want to make a late pursuit for another loan move.

What is most interesting about this deal is that Soares is on a slim contract with Southampton which runs out at the end of this season. That said, if Arsenal play their cards right with the player, they could sign him for free at the end of his loan move. The Evening Standard has reported that Southampton want to cash in on Soares so the Gunners may need to include a small loan fee.

Soares is primarily a right-back but he can also slot in on the left-side if needed. Cedric is a very physical full-back that likes to put his body on the line to win back possession for his side. It’s this level of determination which Arteta wants to see from his whole side so bringing in Cedric would only be a good thing.

He also has pace to burn and he is very productive in the final third. He has a great end product, particularly shown through his crossing ability. It would be a good signing for the Gunners.

Do you think Arsenal should sign Cedric Soares?
