MLS Transactions Update
It has been a mere few days since the MLS Cup Final was played and there has already been a lot of activity going on transaction wise. MLS just held the Expansion Draft on early on Wednesday and some notable names have been added to both Orlando City SC and New York City FC.
This is the time of the season where things can get really confusing for fans that aren’t “die hard” if you will. So we at Playingfor90 decided to put together a list of transactions that have happened throughout the league. We will do our best to keep the list updated as much as possible.
Just in case you missed what happened during the Expansion Draft, take a look at the 20 players that were selected. There were a few surprises if you ask me. I did not see Donovan Ricketts being the first overall pick. He is a bit long in the tooth if you ask me. Also Orlando City has Tally Hall on the roster. Sure he is coming off of an ACL injury, but he is a better player to have in goal if you ask me. Barring an injury, Rickets will be the man more than likely starting between the pipes when Orlando City plays their first MLS game.
I digress. Let’s take a look at who got selected during Wednesday’s Expansion Draft:

I still feel that New York City drafted better than Orlando City. The only draft pick that I question by New York City would be picking George John up. He missed most of the 2014 MLS season due to a knee injury and I feel that this will be a wasted pick. But what do I know?
Let’s take a look at what all twenty MLS teams having been doing this off-season.

They did however break the record for most ties in a season. So I guess that is something to hold on to. Take a look at all of the changes that have happened so far this year for the Fire.

[table id=8 /]

Oct 18, 2014; Commerce City, CO, USA; Colorado Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni before the game against the FC Dallas at Dick
Now it is time to take a look at the Colorado Rapids. The Rapids had a down year compared to 2013. The lost their coach and failed to make the 2014 MLS postseason. They also failed to hold several leads throughout the season and I can imagine the team will be looking to improve on defense.

[table id=12 /]

Oct 26, 2014; Columbus, OH, USA; Fan Steven Waiters wears the new Crew logo prior to the game between the Philadelphia Union and Columbus at Crew Stadium. Unfortunately for them they ran into a red hot New England Revolution team that made it all the way to MLS Cup final. Let’s take a look at the transactions for the Crew so far.

[table id=13 /]

Nov 8, 2014; Washington, DC, USA; D.C. Head Coach Ben Olsen took the team that won all of three games in 2013 to the number one seed in the Eastern Conference in 2014. What will happen in 2015? Let’s take a look at what they have done so far.

[table id=14 /]

Jul 4, 2014; Frisco, TX, USA; A view of the field and fans and FC Dallas logo before the game between FC Dallas and the Philadelphia Union at Toyota Stadium. They brought in goalkeeper Dan Kennedy during the dispersal draft for Chivas USA players. That moved shocked me as they already two quality ‘keepers in my mind, Chris Seitz and Raul Fernandez. The second move that shocked me was Dallas declining the option on Fernandez. I thought at the very least they would have tried to trade him. He didn’t even get picked up in the Expansion Draft, so what do I know?

Take a look at the moves so far.

[table id=15 /]

Oct 12, 2014; Houston, TX, USA; General view of BBVA Compass Stadium during a lightning delay during a match between the Houston Dynamo and D.C. They just named a new coach to take over for the departed Dominic Kinnear and will be looking to make BBVA Compass Stadium a fortress once again. The biggest change will be goalkeeper Tally Hall no longer being with the team. It will be weird not to see the Gig Harbor, WA native between the pipes for the Dynamo.

[table id=16 /]

Dec 8, 2014; Hermosa Beach, CA, USA; General view of the MLS Cup championship trophies won by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014 at the 2014 MLS championship victory celebration at Hermosa Beach Pier. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Galaxy is coming off of their fifth MLS Championship. They are losing arguably one of best players to ever play in MLS, Landon Donovan. I mean honestly what does a team that has won three of the last four championships need to do to make their team better? Apparently not much if you look at their transaction history this off-season.
