Jose Mourinho has enjoyed a topsy-turvy start to his Old Trafford career, but he can still lead Manchester United to success.
Halloween might still be a few days away, but Manchester United fans had their horror night on Sunday, when they were humiliated by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The heavy loss which followed a run of one win since August in the Premier League has the fans worrying that Jose Mourinho has lost his aura.
But Manchester United fans should stick by their manager. He is the closest they can have to Sir Alex Ferguson. The Portuguese manager has won titles everywhere he has been. And while it may not seem like it right now, Manchester United will still play a huge part in this season’s title race. They have an arguably easier set of fixtures coming up. And if Mourinho can get them back in full flow, it won’t be long before United close that 6-point gap that currently separates them from the top.
United have suffered from heavy defeats to their title rivals before too. They nearly won the title despite losing 6-1 to Manchester City in the 2011-12 season. While they won the title in the 2008/09 season, despite losing 4-1 to Liverpool that year. So United fans should not get disheartened just yet.
Things can change very quickly in the Premier League title race, as we have seen over the years. And United, with plenty of experience and know-how in their camp, will still fancy their chances of celebrating come May.

If Jose Mourinho can get these stars to work well together, there will be no stopping the Red Devils. We have seen glimpses of Ibrahimovic and Pogba’s world-class abilities already, and Herrera and Mata have been in great form recently.

It takes a while for the players to adapt to the manager’s tactics and Mourinho is a very different manager to Louis van Gaal, and the players are suffering due to that, after over two decades of stability under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The season is still young, and with 29 games to go, if Mourinho can get his stars firing soon, they stand a real chance of winning their 21st title in May.

Jose Mourinho is a serial winner who has won everywhere he has been

From Porto to Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has won titles everywhere he has managed. He won the Uefa Champions League twice with heavily unfancied clubs FC Porto (2003-04), and then Inter Milan (2009-10). He has won the domestic titles in Portugal (twice), England (thrice), Italy (twice), and Spain.

So one defeat against Chelsea does not make the Portuguese coach a bad manager. It was only a week ago, when he was being heralded as a tactical genius following United’s draw with Liverpool. Mourinho is still one of the best managers in the world, and he can make Manchester United world beaters once again.

His job now is to make sure to the world that Sunday’s disappointing defeat was just a one-off, and he can still achieve greatness with Manchester United, just like he did with his previous clubs.

The English Premier League is full of turnarounds

The season is only 9 games old. With 29 match-weeks still to go, United can easily catch the leaders in the race for the title. Rivals Manchester City have not won any of their last five games, while Arsenal are inconsistent. So Jose Mourinho will know that he can still turn things around at Old Trafford very quickly.

If United can get on a winning run in the next few weeks, they will quickly cut short the distance between them and their title rivals. United fans will remember that things can turn around quickly, as they witnessed in 2012. Despite being 8 points ahead with 6 matches remaining, United faltered and Manchester City won the title on goal difference.

Manchester United are not out of the title race just yet. However, there is no room for mistakes anymore. And they will need to improve massively if they are to be the Premier League champions this season.

United have a favourable run of fixtures coming up

Manchester United have faced nearly all of their title rivals, and have a much easier fixture list till January compared to the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. United face Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool—all at home—in the months of November, December and January. Meanwhile, City will have to take on Chelsea, Leicester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs during those months.

The festive period can generate great momentum, and if United can generate some good results in the next three months, they can prove to be a big part of the title race. Last season, United were just 1 point off the top at the start of December. However they lost their way, and by the end of the month, they were 9 points behind.

The next three months will be very important for Manchester United. As it is said, titles aren’t won by beating the clubs around you, they are won by beating the other sides. United need to be ruthless and start winning these games.

New signings can take time to settle into new surroundings

Manchester United signed four players in the summer. Superstars, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly all arrived at the Old Trafford club in the off-season. While Eric Bailly has made a great start to life at United, Ibrahimovic and Pogba have struggled in recent weeks.

We all know Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still one of the world’s best strikers, and he can make a huge difference. Paul Pogba, who arrived for a world record fee from Juventus, has shown some glimpses of his talent. But the midfielder, 23, will need some time to adjust to the levels of the English game, and once he does, he can run the show for Manchester United. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also struggled with injuries since his move to United. Once he gets fit again, he will be a real threat for the opposition defences.

So Manchester United still have the potential to win English Premier League this season. Jose Mourinho will know that he and his side can celebrate at the end of the season, provided they can perform at the levels they are capable of.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
