The U17 World Cup has seen some superstars burst onto the world scene over the years from Neymar, Toni Kroos to Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho.
Here are the latest crop hoping to catch the eye.
1. Talles Magno
(Brazil)
Position: Winger
Club: Vasco da Gama
Unlike his compatriot, Reinier, who was prevented by Flamengo from competing at the World Cup, Talles was given the green light by his side Vasco da Gama despite the tall spindly legged teenager establishing himself as a key member of the Brazilian side’s first team.
Talles has featured 15 times already this season and managed to score twice. He shrugs defenders off with ease and has been a real revelation in Brazil. Coming from a background of poverty the fans have taken a real liking to the winger and he has quickly established himself as a fan favourite.
Talles Magno is one of the potential superstar of the tournament and without a shadow of a doubt the man to watch in Brazil. With his tall frame and long legs Talles makes great long strides on the pitch and runs rings around defenders. He is also a true Brazilian with the capacity to bamboozle defenders through incredible individual pieces of skill.
Talles demonstrated this against Fortaleza in the Brazilian league where he flicked the ball above defender Gabriel Dias in a clever dribble and forced the defender to commit a foul which would earn Dias a subsequent red card.
The Brazilian winger is silky smooth, with spectacular technique, great turn of pace and excellent agility. He will be playing in Europe very soon.

2. Lucien Agoume

(France)

Position: CM

Club: Inter Milan

A tall and powerful central midfielder, Agoume will be a key player for the French during the tournament as they hope to improve their semi-final performance from the European Championships.

Agoume featured sporadically for FC Sochaux in Ligue Two last season making 15 appearances in the senior side at just 16 years of age and earned himself rave reviews in the process attracting interest from some of the biggest giants of world football including Barcelona and Real Madrid. He never looked out of place playing against senior players and often helped to drive the struggling Sochaux’s attack.

An industrious player, Agoume has great dynamism and a clever eye for a pass. He was snapped up by Inter Milan this summer despite a whole host of interest including the above mentioned Barcelona and Real Madrid and Agoume will be hoping to make a mark for himself in Italy.

Agoume has been likened to his compatriot Paul Pogba in terms of his style of play and it’s easy to see why, he makes great long strides and dribbles just like the Manchester United midfielder and has the ability to take control of the game. Just like his compatriot he also now finds himself in Italy and hoping to make a mark in the game.

Agoume is definitely one to watch, perhaps he will be Paul Pogba’s successor in the French national team. Only time will tell.

3. Pablo Moreno

(Spain)

Position: Striker

Club: Juventus

A rapid striker with a clever and astute finishing, Pablo Moreno is in the mould of something reminiscent of Fernando Torres in his prime. He has the same long hair too and the frightening pace and power which made Torres so formidable.

Having come through the youth ranks at <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/club/identity/barca-academy">La Masia, the Spanish forward made the bold decision to leave Barcelona and sign for Italian giants Juventus last summer and whilst he struggled for form last season, Moreno looks to have settled in Italy this time around.

Compared to just 4 goals in 30 games last season, the forward already has 3 in 4 this campaign, including a double against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Youth League.

Though with the likes of Ronaldo, Dybala and Higuain ahead of him in the pecking order and even Mario Mandzukic missing out from The Old Lady’s Champions League squad it will surely be some time before Moreno gets a chance to prove himself in the first team.

Moreno was impressive during the U17 European Championships for Spain handing out a couple of assists and despatching a cool penalty against Germany in the group stages.

He will be one to watch in the tournament as Spain’s best player and his rapid pace will surely dazzle defences and spectators alike.

4. Ki-Jana Hoever

(Holland)

Position: Right Back

Club: Liverpool

Hoever has already made his first-team debut for Liverpool coming on a substitute against Wolves in the FA Cup in January this year. The Dutch defender impressed in a CB role, however, his more comfortable position is at right-back and it is where he is expected to play for the Dutch during the tournament.

He impressed earlier on in the year during the U17 European Championships helping the Dutch to secure the title and scoring an impressive goal in the process whilst also being solid and compact throughout. Many struggled to get past Hoever’s pace and power at the back and he was one of the shining sparks of the tournament.

Hoever is one of Liverpool’s best prospects and featured regularly for Liverpool’s first team in pre-season during the summer. He has already made one appearance for the Reds this season starting against MK Dons in the league cup. Hoever caught the eye and grabbed his first goal against the Milton Keynes side with an impressive header inside the box from James Milner’s cross in a comfortable <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeYUMZNbTXU%22>2-0 victory.

Hoever is quick, has great awareness and very comfortable on the ball meaning he often brings the play out of defence and instigates attacks.

Position: Striker

Club: Inter Milan

A powerful and explosive finisher Esposito is one of the most fearsome strikers of his age group and has an incredible record in front of goal for Italy’s U17 team having netted 14 times in 20 appearances.

Esposito made his debut for Inter Milan’s first team last season coming on a substitute in the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt and current boss Antonio Conte is set to be a big admirer of the striker.

As of writing this article Esposito is currently in Italy’s squad for the tournament however with Inter frontman Alexis Sanchez set to be out with <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11837124/alexis-sanchez-inter-milan-forward-ruled-out-for-three-months-with-ankle-injury">an injury the Italian side are considering giving Esposito a run out for the first team in place of the Chilean which might mean the Italian forward will not be competing in Brazil.

One thing for sure, his great eye for goal, passion and desire gives him the potential to become one of the most deadly strikes in Europe in years to come if he seizes Conte’s opportunity or catches the eye in Brazil.

6. Gianluca Busio

(USA)

Position: Winger

Club: Sporting Kansas City

The diminutive playmaker has been one of the bright sparks for Sporting Kansas this season. Having scored during the last MLS campaign as a mere 16-year-old, his streak early on in the year in which he netted in <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTNjoIcAKxc%22>three consecutive games certainly caught the eye.

Since then Busio is yet to score again, though that may just be down to Kansas’ inconsistent form rather than Busio’s talent. Busio has still featured regularly though most of his playing time has come from the bench. Sporting will not be heading to the playoffs after a disappointing season and Busio will be hoping to pick his spirits up with an impressive World Cup performance before getting himself ready for hopefully a more fortuitous next season.

At just 1.7 metres, Busio is a clever player with a great eye for a pass and tremendous tenacity and energy which enables him to close down on the opponent’s defenders quickly and steal the ball away.

He will certainly be one to watch in Brazil and most certainly the USMNT’s best player hoping to catch the eye. He will be linking up with Borussia Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna and the pair will form an impressive duo which could go far in the tournament.

7. Efrain Alvarez

(Mexico)

Position: Attacking Midfielder

Club: Los Angeles Galaxy

Eligible to represent both the USMNT and Mexico as a Los Angeles local, Alvarez picked the latter to represent at international level. A tricky midfielder with great vision and excellent dribbling ability.

Earlier this year Alvarez was declared as by the far the ‘<a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUOIntg71V4%22>best talent in the MLS’ by none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic after some impressive performances by Alvarez in the first team.

He has been mainly playing and scoring some spectacular goals in Los Angeles’ academy but has already made 14 appearances in the MLS this season for the Galaxy and has given out three assists.

With every appearance Alvarez looks more and more comfortable in the Galaxy shirt and seems to be settling in smoothly. Next season will be a vital one for Alvarez in the MLS as he looks to establish himself a regular for Galaxy’s first team and fulfil Ibrahimovic’s high praise.

The ball seems to be glued to his feet when he is in possession and he will certainly be pulling off all the tricks at the tournament to help Mexico progress through the group stages.

8. Andras Nemeth

(Hungary)

Position: Forward

Club: Genk

The Hungarian forward born in Cape Town to a Hungarian father and South African mother is a pacy and agile forward with a great eye for goal.

Nemeth caught the eye in the U17 European Championships earlier this year in which he helped Hungary secure victories over Portugal and Belgium and his side were only eliminated on penalties by Spain.

Nemeth scored crucial last-minute winners against both Iceland and Russia and finished the tournament with 3 goals in 5 games.

Nemeth is deadly in front of goal and likes to play in between the defensive line. He is in the mould of an old fashioned centre forward who runs behind defences and scores from one on ones.

He is currently playing for Genk’s second-string side and has already scored a hat-trick for the Belgian’s this season. Nemeth has also <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.uefa.com/uefayouthleague/clubs/players/250126068--andras-nemeth/">netted for Genk’s U19 side in the UEFA Youth League against Napoli.

He will be hoping to catch the eye in Brazil and help the Hungarians emulate their impressive form in the European Championships and use his performance as a catalyst to help him break into Genk’s first team.

Club: AS Azur Star

The Cameroonian midfielder is the son of Nigeria’s first ever female captain and his older brother Stephane Zobo plays for Toulouse. Football runs in Mvoue’s veins and he might be the most talented player in his family. Mvoue impressed in the U17 African Cup of Nations and was picked the player of the tournament scoring once and handing out two assists in the process.

He was also included in Cameroon’s<a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48280170"> provisional squad for the senior African Cup of nations earlier this year by Clarence Seedorf. The former dutch legend clearly recognised Mvoue’s talent and whilst the young Cameroonian midfielder was not included in the final squad, he still earned some vital experience and encouragement.

Mvoue is a strong, pacy midfielder with a great tall frame and long legs that makes him an impervious threat to opponents.

He has all the attributes to make it to the very top and already has a pre-contract agreement with Toulouse meaning he will join the French side once he turns 18 in February. He will be hoping to settle into the French side quickly and break into their first team.

But for now Mvoue has his sights on Brazil and the U17 World Cup where the Cameroonian captain will be hoping to repeat his form from the U17 African Cup of Nations and lead his country into the knockout round of the tournament.

The Australian midfielder became Melbourne Victory’s youngest ever player at just 16 years and 70 days old coming on as a substitute in the <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2019/10/19/stars-future-10-players-watch-u17-world-cup/"https://twitter.com/gomvfc/status/986571052988825600">87th minute in the Asian Champions League against Shanghai SPG.

Kirdar has been training with Melbourne’s first team since he was 15 years old and has been a stand out performer in their youth set-up.

Kirdar is an intelligent player with great technique and the ability to strike the ball effortlessly. He is on the brink of making his breakthrough at Melbourne and will be hoping to get more chances this upcoming season in the A-League.

He will be Australia’s biggest star at the World Cup and the Aussies will be relying on his experience at first-team level to help the secure qualification from their group. They face a tough challenge against Nigeria, Hungary and Ecuador.
