Arsenal: Unai Emery looks to sign Lucas Torreira 2.0 from Villarreal

It would appear that one underpriced midfielder isn’t enough, but Arsenal fans aren’t going to complain about Unai Emery’s newest target.

Arsenal signed one of the bargains of the season in Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan has been in terrific form since he signed from Sampdoria, although it did take him some time to make his way into the starting eleven.

However, Unai Emery is never one to rest on his laurels. He will be analysing his squad in training, looking for ways to improve. And according to The Sun, the midfield may be an area of concern for the Spanish coach. They report that Arsenal will target Pablo Fornals of Villarreal, and they’re willing to trigger his £17.8m release clause.

Strange choice, but please go ahead.

In my opinion, Arsenal’s midfield is their strongest position. They should be looking to strengthen with a winger or a new defender. However, with Aaron Ramsey leaving, this deal does start to make a lot more sense.

Pablo Fornals is showing good form with Villarreal this season, as well as a level of versatility. He has played in various positions throughout the midfield but in my opinion, he is better in advanced situations.

According to WhoScored, the Spaniard has scored three goals and provided two assists this season. This input when it comes to goals will be crucial in replacing Aaron Ramsey as the Welshman has a habit of popping up on the score sheet with Arsenal.

Villarreal is struggling this season, so a move would undeniably benefit Fornals as well as Arsenal. The Gunners are thankfully going through a different time in the league, as they sit just outside the top four, looking like they can easily break into the top spots if they wanted.

Do you think Pablo Fornals would benefit Arsenal, and if so, how?
