Could Hirving Lozano be the man to replace Eden Hazard at Chelsea? (Photo by Edwin van Zandvoort/Soccrates/Getty Images)
These five stars could excel under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, but are they worthy of filling Eden Hazard’s boots?
Eden Hazard is a prominent figure at Chelsea. He is perceived by many as their best player and some even consider him to be the best player in the Premier League. We’re not here to talk about that, though…
It’s looking likely that he will leave Chelsea sooner or later. His contract runs out in the summer of 2020, so it’s important that The Blues look into potential replacements. Here are just five that I have highlighted.
1. Hirving Lozano (PSV)
Deemed by many as the breakout star at this year’s World Cup, Hirving Lozano failed to get his lucrative summer move. Perhaps that’s a good thing though because it means he has more time to develop in the Eredivisie.
Hirving Lozano has been one of PSV’s best players this season and they’re reaping all the benefits. At the time of writing this, PSV sits top of the table with Lozano scoring 10 of their Eredivisie goals. This is quite the feat for any attacker, especially considering he’s played in just 10 games.
In the World Cup, he was most renowned for crushing the hearts of the champions at the time, Germany. His impressive finish was the goal which gave Mexico fans plenty of hope and the team certainly exceeded their expectations.
‘Chucky’ would add a new dynamic to Chelsea’s play. Where Hazard is beginning to become more selfish (in a good way), Lozano would come in and add a creative element. He’s shown his ability to cut inside, but he also excels at creativity from wide positions, which could be beneficial for Alvaro Morata.
recently asked the Barcelona officials for a move away, it does seem like a no-brainer…

3. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

Gareth Bale used to be considered the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne but he’s barely lived up to that name. Don’t get me wrong, he’s been good this season, but his performances haven’t been worthy of accolades.

The Welshman is known for his electrifying pace, or at least he was. Now, he’s more known for his finishing ability, which Chelsea could do with. They lack a clinical goal scorer because let’s face it, Morata is not that.

That said, bringing in Bale would be smart business by Chelsea, even if rival fans question it as a panic buy.

Bale has experience of playing in London with Tottenham Hotspur. That said, it’s no surprise that he’s consistently linked with moves back to England. The question remains whether or not the Welshman would join another English club other than Tottenham or Southampton.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2018/11/27/five-players-replace-eden-hazard-chelsea/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/7JbOoJ_dge4?start=11&feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

When he was in England, he was regarded as one of the best in the league. It’s no wonder that Real Madrid signed him. Ageing at 29, he may feel that it’s time to embark on a new adventure, and for that, he could look towards old surroundings.

Signing him will be difficult for Chelsea. If they can persuade Real Madrid to sell, then they’d need to persuade Bale to join. It will be a challenge, but Chelsea never shies away from a challenge. That said, it will be interesting to see if anything happens.

4. Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Monchengladbach)

I mean, replacing Hazard with Hazard will save a lot of printing money, won’t it?

All jokes aside, Thorgan Hazard could be Chelsea’s best bet. He did use to play in London, before moving to Germany in 2015. His time with Gladbach has been positive, and in his many years with the club now, he has learned a great deal about the game. Should Chelsea wish to sign him, then they will <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2018/11/27/five-players-replace-eden-hazard-chelsea/"https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/thorgan-hazard-chelsea-latest-transfers-15432901">have the option to do so.

Thorgan Hazard is in sumptuous form currently, even better than Eden with Chelsea. The winger has scored seven goals and provided four assists in his last eight competitive games, for both club and country.

While stats should never be the be all or end all, it’s easy to see why Chelsea fans often romanticise about re-signing their former star. He is just 25 years old too, so there is plenty of time to nurture under Maurizio Sarri.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2018/11/27/five-players-replace-eden-hazard-chelsea/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/_rfn4aHew8s?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

Many would see this as a panic buy, but it’s far from a panic buy. From a Chelsea perspective, it would simply be making the most of their options. He would probably be the easiest of this list to sign but that’s not indicative of his quality.

He has the ability to play in a variety of positions across the front line. However, he seems to excel as a right-sided player. His versatility will serve him well should he join Chelsea, and it wouldn’t take long for Sarri to make the most of it.

5. Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)

Alright, this one’s probably not going to happen, let’s be honest. But when you’re looking at replacements for Eden Hazard available on the market, there aren’t much better than Neymar. In fact, some would even argue that Neymar is a significant upgrade on Hazard, which doesn’t come around easy.

Neymar is also undergoing some uncertainty. It only feels like yesterday that PSG signed him, but he seems to be linked with a move away every transfer window. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it Chelsea fans?

Eden Hazard recently said that he would <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2018/11/27/five-players-replace-eden-hazard-chelsea/"https://www.goal.com/en/news/hazard-rules-out-psg-move-but-says-he-could-leave-chelsea-in/c76y9inzucrr1s5a1f8skej08">never join Paris Saint-Germain, but Neymar has never said that he wouldn’t join Chelsea. In fact, the Brazilian has been known to <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2018/11/27/five-players-replace-eden-hazard-chelsea/"https://www.sport-english.com/en/news/ligue-1/neymars-love-of-london-could-complicate-real-madrid-transfer-7015598">love the London lifestyle.

However, Chelsea probably won’t want to spend their funds too heavily. There’s no denying that Neymar holds a hefty price tag. I mean, he holds the record for most expensive transfer now, so imagine what another transfer would cost.

Neymar is mostly known for his work on the ball. His flicks and tricks have gained a mass following throughout his career, all stemming from his Brazilian roots. If he did join Chelsea, then it helps not only tactically but also on a marketing front. Could you imagine the number of shirts they would sell with Neymar’s name on the back?

The best option is obviously to keep hold of Hazard. That’s what the board will be looking to do. However, should the time come, they must be prepared with a shortlist of replacements, and this is only five.
