Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is closing in on transfer to AC Milan

Cesc Fabregas could be on his way out of Chelsea, waiting to embark on a new journey in Italy with AC Milan.

Cesc Fabregas has endured a fruitful time in London, both with Arsenal and Chelsea. It was with Chelsea in particular that he excelled the most, within the prime stages of his career. He lifted two Premier League titles and an FA Cup trophy during his time with the Blues, but now he could be on his way out.

According to Calciomercato, the 31-year-old is in talks with AC Milan over a potential move. It’s thought that Maurizio Sarri is in favour of selling him, given his side’s wealth of options in midfield.

The deal would make sense.

I feel like this is fair enough. It suits all parties. Cesc Fabregas isn’t going to get much game-time with Chelsea and AC Milan need to stock up in midfield. It’s a no-brainer in this regard, but he isn’t just there to make up the numbers.

Should the deal take place, Cesc Fabregas will arrive in Italy with a point to prove. Having torn it up in both the Premier League and La Liga, the Spanish midfielder isn’t a pushover. Even as he ages, he still has what it takes to make things tick.

Cesc Fabregas is known for his fine passing ability. He likes to play passes from deep, in order to set his side on the front-foot. This was shown in his first season with Chelsea, as he continuously played lofted through balls to Diego Costa, with the Blues reaping all the rewards.

AC Milan is in the process of rebuilding. A number of their transfers haven’t been the best, granted, but they’re making positive steps forward. As always in Italy, the aim is to keep up with Juventus, so Fabregas will have this in mind.

He is getting on a bit, but he’s a technical player. He’s never relied on his physical or athletic ability, so he’s not going to deteriorate anytime soon. As we’ve seen with other Spanish midfielders in Xavi and David Silva, you don’t lose technical ability with age.

Do you think this move should go ahead?
