Zinedine Zidane shouldn’t accept Manchester United job

With Jose Mourinho’s job being under the scanner in a while, Manchester United want Zinedine Zidane as their boss. Here’s why he should reject their offer.

Manchester United’s situation is currently in absolutely shambles. Before heading into the international break, it looked like Jose Mourinho would be relieved of his managerial duties at the Old Trafford when his side were 2-0 down against Newcastle United. However, a stunning comeback in the second half to win 3-2 was enough to save Mourinho’s job for at least a fortnight.

But it looks to be only a matter of time before Ed Woodward shows the exit door to Jose Mourinho after poor results and moreover, a strained relationship in the dressing room and with Manchester United’s executives. The die could be cast within the next month or so when the Red Devils play twice against Juventus and once against Chelsea and Manchester United.

It will certainly be a defining period for United who have already shortlisted a few managerial candidates. What is known is that Zinedine Zidane tops the wish-list while Antonio Conte could also be a candidate. The former will be a more feasible option for the Red Devils, but I reckon that he must not go to the north of England, especially with Bayern Munich now knocking on the door as per reports.

Don’t get me wrong but at this point in time, Manchester United is a step down from Real Madrid, something which no professional would want to take in rational circumstances, more so when the prospective job destination is in a crisis and its board is not supportive of making heavy money signings.

With just under three seasons of management in the top-tier of club football, the former Real Madrid boss has made a reputation for himself of being among the world’s best coach and rightly so after winning three UEFA Champions League titles. And realistically, let alone winning another Champions League, the Red Devils don’t have a team and a mentality good enough to win even the Premier League or the FA Cup.

Failure in winning one of the major competitions at the helm at Old Trafford will be of significant effect of Zidane’s resume and something that is extremely likely to tarnish his achievements from Real Madrid. It will clearly be an honour for Zidane to get the offer of a team that is still amongst the best in the world, but taking the job would be a reckless step.

Bayern Munich are currently in a state of cataclysm of their own and Niko Kovac’s future has come under the cosh as well. The former Frankfurt manager has landed unconvincing results and the Bavarians are now placed sixth in a league which they are obliged to win every season since the last few years.

Karl Heinz-Rummenigge is not willing to give the Croatian boss any more time and another disappointing result could lead to the Bayern chief pulling the trigger on him. Even in his shortlist, Zidane is the primary name while Arsene Wenger and Laurent Blanc are the other two prospects.

With the Bundesliga giants knocking on his door, it would be of much greater sense if Zinedine Zidane chooses to opt their post rather than that of Manchester United. The French manager will definitely add to his trophy catalogue which is already something to be proud of and could display his Champions League expertise with a team that is a favourite to lift the trophy every year.
