Arsenal: Mikel Arteta is right to not sign Dani Ceballos permanently

The Arsenal manager has shut down any reports rumouring him to be in contact with Real Madrid…

Real Madrid were kind enough to lend Dani Ceballos to Arsenal on loan in the summer. It took him a while to properly break into the starting XI on a consistent basis but a few good performances under Unai Emery got the fans excited.

However, the harsh reality is that Ceballos has been inconsistent since his arrival. I can’t recall him having a bad game, granted, but in the majority of his performances, he has not been the shining star he should have been.

Coming from Real Madrid brings plenty of expectation, perhaps unfairly at times. Consequently, Ceballos was bound to be under immense scrutiny.

Dani Ceballos has just recently come back from an injury and he has been impressive in a few of his latest performances. However, Mikel Arteta has not seen enough to commit a promise to him.

If Ceballos can continue to grow as a player under the former Spanish midfielder, then he will inevitably consider signing him in the summer. However, according to Marca, he has denied being in contact with Real Madrid already.

Arteta is completely in the right to do so. Signing a player on a long-term contract is a bold move to make so for him to be honest with himself, despite external pressure, in that that he has not seen enough of Ceballos to make such a decision, is applaudable.

Arteta has not claimed that he will not sign Ceballos on a permanent deal. After all, he wants what’s best for his club. I’m just excited to see the continued progress of Ceballos after his bad luck in the first half of the season.

If he can end this season on a high, he will win a way into Arsenal’s squad for next season, providing that’s what he wants.

Do you think Arsenal should sign Dani Ceballos permanently?
