Arsenal might have found their Gabriel Martinelli 2.0

It’s not often that a player signed from a lower division comes into a big club and makes a big impact, but an example of that was shown when Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli.

Signing from Ituano in 2019, nobody knew much about Martinelli. He had scored a few goals and was making a name for himself somewhat in Brazil, but didn’t have nearly enough recognition to warrant a start for Arsenal. But yet, Unai Emery at the time persisted and gave the youngster consecutive starts in the Europa League, in which he just kept on scoring.

While he is still yet to prove much to Mikel Arteta, he will know that his injury record has cursed him somewhat. He still brings plenty of eagerness and dynamism to the side when he starts, it’s just a shame he doesn’t do so more often.

Arsenal could turn to this underdog striker next

With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah likely to be on their way out in the summer, Arsenal need to bring in more attacking reinforcements. It’s a stress, but it doesn’t need to be. There is one option that has sprung up a lot lately, and that is Ivan Toney of Brentford.

The pacey striker who ages at 24 years old is racking up goals for the newly-promoted side, who are within touching distance of promotion this season if they play their cards right. However, should they remain in the Championship, Toney will hope to be playing in the Premier League next season.

According to a report from Teamtalk, Brentford are asking for around £30m for Toney which would be a good deal as far as Arsenal are concerned. There are talks of the Gunners splashing the cash this summer, but Toney would be a great option for a cheap price.

Do you think Arsenal should sign Ivan Toney?
