Arsenal: Lacazette is slowly becoming the worst of the bunch

I’m struggling to think of an Arsenal striker in worse form than Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal are going through a nice period of form and times are exciting under new manager Mikel Arteta. However, one man who isn’t enjoying life is Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman has not scored a single goal in his last eight games and only has two in his last ten across all competitions.

Laca has simply been frustrating to watch from an Arsenal perspective. There have been multiple occasions where the ball has fell to him and Arsenal have needed him to convert but he just hasn’t. In fact, at times it seems his most notable contribution is poking his backside into the hip of his defender. Big deal, I know.

He is undeniably an exceptional player when he wants to be but he is just in bad form. So, why is it that under Arteta, where the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah are shining, Lacazette is failing? It can’t be a managerial issue.

In fact, of Arsenal’s four striker options, I wouldn’t even say Lacazette is second-tier anymore. Aubameyang will always get the nod in the first team but Gabriel Martinelli has had a greater impact than Lacazette. The Brazil international is showing great determination to reach the top and he seems to be scoring and assisting for fun.

Eddie Nketiah got off the mark again in Arsenal colours against Bournemouth on Monday night and while it is still early days, Lacazette should be concerned that maybe Nketiah will surpass him too.

The injury problems haven’t exactly helped the Frenchman but this should be no excuse for a player of his calibre. He should be making the most of every chance he gets because, as the Arsenal fans have seen in the past, he is more than capable of this.

Let’s hope it’s just a dry patch for the usually prolific goal scorer but one thing is for sure, Lacazette will need to start scoring goals soon or Arteta will be ruthless.

What do you make of Lacazette’s form?
