Arsenal player ratings vs Burnley: Gunners give Arsene Wenger a fitting tribute
by Kian Long
Petr Cech – 7/10
Petr Cech wasn’t really tested today, but when he was, he kept the scoring down at zero for Burnley. It’s his first clean sheet in quite a while, and they always look sweeter when the scoreline is as high as it was today.
Hector Bellerin – 8/10
Hector Bellerin was on another level today. He provided two assists, one to each of the strikers. He didn’t need to do much from a defensive standpoint, which gave him licence to roam forward, where he prefers to be.
Sead Kolasinac – 7.5/10
The Bosnian international was good today. He got on the score-sheet with a thunderous shot to the far corner. He used his physicality well and he looked to bring the ball forward wherever possible.
one which would have pleased the French boss.

The game got off to a good start, as the two strikers linked up well. Alex Iwobi fed the ball through to Alexandre Lacazette who drilled a low ball into the feet of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was never going to miss from such a distance.

Then, right before the first half was up, the Gunners doubled their lead. Hector Bellerin floated a cushioned cross into Alexandre Lacazette, who beat Nick Pope at his near post. It was a terrific first half for Arsenal.

The second half was even better, and Burnley backed off even more. It was Sead Kolasinac who got on the score-sheet early on in the second half, courtesy of fine work from Jack Wilshere.

Just over ten minutes later, Alex Iwobi came up with his tribute for the man who believed in him, by scoring an excellent goal, assisted by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was exceptional today. It was the Gabonese who capped off the scoring in the 75th minute too.

Without further ado, here are my Arsenal player ratings vs Burnley.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 7.5/10

Everything the Greek international did was applauded. He’s already becoming a real fan favorite at Arsenal, despite playing just two games. Today he was as solid as he was against Manchester United, battling hard with the Burnley attackers to protect his goal. There were a few times when his inexperience got the better of him, but that’s to be expected at this stage.

Calum Chambers – 7.5/10

He looked comfortable in possession and he protected his goal well. He looks very good when partnered with Mavropanos, as the two always seem to compliment each other well.

Granit Xhaka – 7.5/10

It was yet another underrated performance from Granit Xhaka. His role and impact on the game often goes overlooked, but he was once again important today. He dictated the play well and acted as the anchor between defense and attack, often playing cute passes to move the team forward.

Jack Wilshere – 7.5/10

Jack Wilshere used his footwork well. There were a number of times where he was put under pressure but he came out of it well, with the ball stuck to his feet.

Alex Iwobi – 7/10

Alex Iwobi had a few frustrating moments but they were overshadowed by his elsewhere good work. His finish was excellent and he continued on from his good form against Manchester United last weekend.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7/10

The Armenian had quite a different role today. He was a lot more defensive-minded than he usually is, which is good for Hector Bellerin. He won possession back on a number of occasions, but his passing was a little off today.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 8.5/10

The Gabonese striker was on top form today. He was a true ‘fox in the box’, picking up positions left by a frail Burnley defense. He got two goals and also provided an assist for Alex Iwobi. Even when he was on his hat-trick, he was still looking for ways to integrate his fellow attackers into the score sheet.

Alexandre Lacazette – 8/10

The presence of Aubameyang has really helped Lacazette. He looks like a new player with this partnership, and today was no different. He started off the game with an assist, before wrapping up a goal before the second half. Long may it continue!

Per Mertesacker – 7/10

He played it safe, yet he was still cheered on by the Arsenal faithful. It was his last home game for the club which has served him well, it was certainly an emotional send off for him.

Aaron Ramsey – 7/10

He got forward well and in the little time he had on the pitch, was involved in a goal. It’s an accurate representation of the Welshman; give him chances, and he will provide.

Danny Welbeck – 7/10

Danny Welbeck almost scored a contender for goal of the season but the woodwork denied him. Even he was stunned by this strike. Other than that, he didn’t have too much of an impact.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
