Montreal Impact Sell over 20,000 Tickets for Champions League Final in 24 Hours

The Montreal Impact reached the CONCACAF Champions League Final on Tuesday. On Wednesday and within 24 hours of their historic win, the team announce they have sold over 20,00 tickets for their home leg (second leg) of the CCL Final.

With the team having 20 more days to sell tickets, it will only be a matter of time until they officially sell out. It might help that the team is offering a 15% discount for fans who buy tickets from both games against the Chicago Fire on April 18 and their CCL Final second leg match on April 29. Their game on April 18 will be the Stade Saputo opener for the 2015 season.

It is good to see that ticket sales are off to a strong start. While the Impact finished towards the bottom of the standings last year and have been hit by the injury bug in 2015, they have found success in Champions League play. The fans have noticed as they have quickly bought their tickets for the home leg. Likewise, the Impact have the all important second leg at home and that gives them a slight advantage.

Another benefit they now have in their favor is rested legs. Originally, they were scheduled to take on the SJ Earthquakes on April 22, but that match was moved to Wednesday, September 16th on Thursday.

While they will have to play a mid-week match in September as the MLS season reaches the home stretch, it’s good to see the league moved their match against San Jose so Montreal can focus primarily on their Champions League Final. If their match wasn’t moved, they would have played three games in a week’s time. Now they can focus on the first leg on April 22 at Azteca Stadium and their home leg on April 29. The winner of the CCL will move on to the Club World Cup.

For now the Impact look to focus on winning their next MLS game. They have yet to win a MLS game this year and travel to take on the Houston Dynamo for their April 11th match. While they continue to struggle in MLS play, they have found a way to success in Champions League action.

With the team selling 20,000 tickets in 24 hours, it will be interesting to see how soon they can sell out for the Champions League Final on April 29th.
