Tottenham devise a cheeky plan to sign this Arsenal wantaway

Jose Mourinho is no stranger to harassing Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has put in a stellar transformation since he was unveiled as Arsenal manager. However, there is one thing that even he cannot turnaround; Jose Mourinho being an annoying figure. It’s just in his blood, I suppose.

When the two managers met in the Premier League for the first time, it was Mourinho who got the edge courtesy of a late Toby Alderweireld goal. Now, Mourinho is hoping to get the better of Arteta in the transfer window.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on a move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The 22-year-old has been struggling for game time under Arteta and is thought to want more minutes at this stage of his career.

I mean, it does pain me to say, but I suppose Ainsley’s want for a move away makes sense. He does deserve to be getting more game time and if this can’t be promised under Arteta, then the club should respect his wishes by selling him.

But not to Tottenham. This would be a crime. Maitlaind-Niles has huge potential and to be frank, Mourinho is only going to ruin that. He is not known for being great with promising players, just take a look at the likes of Paul Pogba and Tanguy Ndombele, both of which would be in a better stage of their career if it wasn’t for the Potuguese international.

Also, as Maitland-Niles looks to progress in his career, he should assess whether Tottenham is the right place to do this. I’m certain that a quick look at their trophy cabinet will tell him all needs to know.

If Arsenal manage to sign Thomas Partey this summer, then there is limited space in the Arsenal XI for Maitland-Niles to move into. For too long, he has settled for playing as a full-back but his favoured position is in the midfield.

Do you think Tottenham will sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer?
