Centre back-Davinson Sanchez
Let’s take a moment here to appreciate Tottenham’s most expensive transfer purchase ever. Sanchez doesn’t garner may headlines, but he’s been excellent in defense for Pochettino.
The North London Derby is the only Premier League match Spurs have lost with the Colombian in the starting XI. Look for him to start a new streak against West Brom. He’ll need to be alert to scupper any counter attacks, but that plays right into his strength as a defender.
Centre back-Eric Dier
Dier may prefer to play as a central midfielder, but that won’t be his role in this match. The injury to Toby Alderweireld will keep him in the back three for the next few weeks.
Fortunately, he’s fully capable of excelling in the back line as well. Look for him to try to get on the ball early in the match to unlock Tottenham’s attack. Dier needs to make sure he doesn’t get caught too far forward, but he’ll have plenty of protection in the event he’s caught adrift.
Centre back-Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen has been Tottenham’s best defender this season. He may have also been the club’s best centre back last year. He doesn’t have the same flair as his Belgian defensive partner, but he’s pure class.
Hopefully he won’t be required to show too much of his class tomorrow. A quiet, unassuming match from Vertonghen will likely equal a comfortable Spurs victory. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
need to play with more tempo. There isn’t anyone in his squad that sprays the ball around the pitch quicker than Winks.

He’ll be in the starting XI to safeguard against Spurs starting out slow. The risk, of course, is that playing Winks and Eriksen together in the same midfield does leave Tottenham a little light in the middle of the pitch.

Former Spurs star Jake Livermore will fancy his chances to use his physicality to dominate the middle of the pitch against Pochettino’s lightweight pairing. Pochettino will count on the skill of his stars to overcome their lack of strength.

Attacking midfielder-Son Heung-Min

The talented Korean certainly isn’t Tottenham’s most consistent attacker, but he is capable of moments of attacking brilliance. Pochettino won’t need him to dominate this match for 90 minutes. He just needs Son to pop up and score a goal to break the deadlock.

Of course, it would be nice if Son could add some consistency to go along with his periodic moments of exquisite skill. He’ll need to increase his work rate to truly become one of Pochettino’s trusted stars. Look for him to run his socks off in this match.

Attacking midfielder-Dele Alli

Dele proved that reports of his demise had been greatly exaggerated with his offensive outburst against Dortmund. Pochettino will want his English star to build on that momentum against West Brom.

The precocious youngster may be the biggest beneficiary of Eriksen playing deeper in the midfield. The departure of the classy Dane gives Dele a lot more room to roam and operate. Dele’s runs into space might be the biggest threat to West Brom’s goal tomorrow.

Striker-Harry Kane

If I were Pochettino, I’d try to rest Kane in this match. However, this isn’t a piece about the 11 players I’d start if I were in charge of Spurs. As such, I’m projecting Kane to start this match because it’s consistent with Pochettino’s normal line of thinking.

Simply put, the Argentine gaffer isn’t fond of rotating Kane. In fairness, the ineptitude of Fernando Llorente’s tenure to date doesn’t give him a serious alternative. Kane may not be 100%, but his mere presence on the pitch makes the game easier for his teammates.

The best case scenario is for Tottenham to put this match to bed early so Kane can get a lot of rest. That might be wishful thinking on my part, but what’s life if you aren’t allowed to dream?
