Arsenal set to chase after forgotten Real Madrid midfielder
Arsenal looking to make moves ahead of the next transfer window.
Mikel Arteta has had a mixed start to his managerial career at Arsenal. He joined the club knowing he had a lot of work to do and it is going to take a transfer window or two for him to mould the Gunners in his image.
In return, the club needs to do everything they can to make sure that Arteta has the right players at his disposal to succeed. They’ve already started the process of identifying players and have set their sights on a Real Madrid midfielder.
According to Marca, Arsenal is ready to go after Madrid’s James Rodriguez to strengthen both their midfield and attack. They are reportedly going to do their all to bring the Colombian to London.
Rodriguez has struggled for playing time under Zinedine Zidane having only played ten times in all competitions. He’s only been able to contribute one goal and one assist.
Arsenal believes that a change of scenery may be the best thing for him and are looking at him to be a potential replacement for Mezut Ozil. The German playmaker has been rumoured with a move away from the Emirates for a while and it could finally happen if they manage to land the Colombian.
James has had success away from Madrid and had a decent spell on loan with Bayern Munich. The Bavarian side did not make his loan permanent which saw him return to a club that signed him after a breakout 2014 World Cup but where he never fully convinced Zidane.
If he does sign, he won’t be the only Real Madrid player in the side. According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal is working on an arrangement with the Spanish giants to extend Dani Ceballos‘ loan beyond June 30.
With the Premier League on hold because of the coronavirus, loan deals are now in a tricky situation. Arsenal is said to be relaxed and believe Madrid won’t oppose an extension on the loan to whenever the season can be completed.
As for James Rodriguez, a move to a club where he can play is the best move for him. He is 28 and should be reaching the prime of his career. Things have not worked out at Madrid and with Mikel Arteta in charge, a move to Arsenal might just get his career back on track.
