Real Madrid will rightfully snub English club for Raphael Varane

Real Madrid is not prepared to listen to offers for Raphael Varane

The summer transfer window is still going ahead at this point in time. Whether the dates are slightly rearranged to match the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure though, Real Madrid is working hard to be prepared.

Los Blancos will mainly focus on bringing in some star players and splashing the cash, trying to work their way around what is bound to be a very confusing market. However, they will also be aware that some players are in need of being sold, including the likes of Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic.

Raphael Varane is not one of those, however. The French centre back is one of the best in the world and he has really taken advantage of learning under Sergio Ramos. Now he is about to enter the prime stages of his career, Real Madrid will want to keep ahold of him.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester City was set to submit a summer bid for the Frenchman. The Citizens are loaded with money and under Pep Guardiola, they are a really attractive destination for any young player. However, Real Madrid will not listen to any offers.

And rightly so. Madrid is by no means a smaller club and they don’t need to be bullied by Manchester City. Madrid is the footballing capital of the world and Raphael Varane is certainly in no position to want to leave, neither is the club in a position to want to sell him.

Manchester City will obviously look for more centre backs this summer since Guardiola’s system relies on a surplus of defensive power. Aymeric Laporte is slowly but surely reaching the prime stages of his career and he needs someone world-class to learn from in the defence.

However, the Citizens will have to look elsewhere. There are options for them, of course, with the likes of Dayot Upamecano thought to be admired across Europe.

Do you think Manchester City should try and persuade Real Madrid still?
