There likely aren’t many teams in the whole sporting world who would like to get back to playing than Inter Milan.
They had a chance to pull into first place in Serie A in their last 2 matches before the stoppage but fell short against both Lazio and Juventus to end up in 3rd. Now, with uncertainty surrounding whether or not we’ll even see this Serie A season finished, it seems like as good a time as any to take a look at what Inter Milan needs to do to make sure they don’t find themselves in 3rd again at this time of year next season.
Andrea Ranocchia
I’ve been saying for a while that Inter should sell Andrea Ranocchia and now I believe this could be their last shot to get anything in return for him before his contract runs out. Ranocchia is the first of a few players who will make it onto this list who is about to enter the last year of their contract.
I really don’t see any reason why Inter should keep Ranocchia around to finish out this contract. The emergence of Alessandro Bastoni has made Ranocchia more expendable than ever, as evidenced by the fact that he only made a total of 6 appearances this season, with 4 of those coming in the Europa League and Coppa Italia.
Inter Milan has enough homegrown players at the club now that the don’t need Ranocchia to fill those requirements. With him reaching the end of his career, Inter should be looking to get whatever value they can out of him by selling him to a lesser Serie A team that needs some defensive reinforcements. They aren’t going to bring in any kind of mind-blowing transfer fee for him, but the focus at this point should just be to get some value out of him before his contract expires. Hopefully inter is willing to part with him this summer for whatever fee gets offered to them.

Radja Nainggolan

I’ll keep this one short because I don’t think there’s any debate to be had here. <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/1f9328da/Radja-Nainggolan?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22>Radja Nainggolan’s first season at Inter wasn’t the greatest and his return to Cagliari seems to have brought the best back out of him. He’s happy back at Cagliari and Inter should just admit defeat on his signing.

If they can make back most of what they spent on him (minus the cost of giving up one of Italy’s most promising young players) then it will at least help ease the pain of how disappointing Nainggolan’s signing has been.

Antonio Candreva

<a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/356c9002/Antonio-Candreva?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22>Antonio Candreva has had an up and down last few years at Inter. He went from starting nearly every Serie A match during his first two years with the club to making only 5 league starts last season, to starting 16 matches so far this season. Even though he has gotten back to being a regular starter this year in <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/6d3e0d09/Antonio-Conte?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Antonio Conte’s system, I think it’s time for Inter to move on from the ageing Italian.

At 33 years old, it’s hard to believe that Candreva will be able to contribute much longer at Inter Milan and in my opinion, the right side of their squad is one of the few areas that they actually need to address this summer. To improve in this area, they’ll need to sell one of the two players they used on the right side this season and Candreva seems like the most likely candidate.

Danilo D’Ambrosio is a little bit younger and has the added benefit of being able to play on both wings and at center back. That should mean that Candreva will be playing somewhere else next season.

Candreva’s time as a contributor for a top club is running out and Candreva should let that time run down while getting whatever remaining value they can out of him.

Kwadwo Asamoah

The story of <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/089550f5/Kwadwo-Asamoah?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22>Kwadwo Asamoah’s career at Inter is very similar to his time at Juventus. When he’s been healthy, he has made the value of his presence abundantly clear. He’s a talented, hard-working player who has had taken on whatever role his team has needed.

Last season, he managed to avoid injury and help Inter claim another spot in the Champions League. Unfortunately, this year the injuries kept him sidelined for most of the season. I believe those injuries may have cost him his spot in the lineup for Inter.

Asamoah just doesn’t have very much working in his favor at Inter right now. They don’t have much invested in him because he was a free transfer. His position could also be much more crowded when next season starts than it was at the beginning of this season.

Inter has the option to buy <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/9e1577aa/Cristiano-Biraghi?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Cristiano Biraghi and just bought <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/be927d03/Ashley-Young?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Ashley Young, who has an option for another year in his contract. Biraghi got the most time on the left side this year and Young quickly worked his way into Inter’s starting lineup, making 5 starts in the short time he was with the squad. If Inter doesn’t send <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/970b8574/Federico-Dimarco?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Federico Dimarco back out after his loan spell at Hellas Verona ends, then there just won’t be any room for Asamoah on this squad.

The fact that Asamoah was a free transfer means that any transfer value Inter gets out of him would be considered plusvalenza, which will be especially important for Inter as they add <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/980522ec/Christian-Eriksen?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Christian Eriksen’s contract to their books and attempt to bring in a couple more pieces this summer.

Asamoah would bring in a modest return due to his age, but that return would still be helpful for Inter’s books and will likely be deemed worth selling him if Inter Milan decides to keep even two of Biraghi, Young, and Dimarco in their squad.

Ivan Perisic

Inter began trying to move on from <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/6fe90922/Ivan-Perisic?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22>Ivan Perisic last summer, but it looks like his stay at Bayern Munich is going to be a short one. So far during his loan spell, he has struggled to earn regular starts and there isn’t much reason to believe things are going to get any better for him next season. Even though he’s played well enough to warrant more regular time, Bayern continues to be linked with a move for <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/2b114be3/Leroy-Sane?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Leroy Sane, which would render Perisic superfluous for the German squad.

If Bayern chooses not to activate their option to buy, then Inter will be right back to where they started last summer. Perisic just doesn’t fit in Antonio Conte’s plans for this squad’s future. That means Inter will need to find a suitor for Perisic before his value has more time to drop.

He’s officially on the wrong side of 30, but that shouldn’t deter potential buyers who are looking to add talent on the wing.

Perisic is still clearly in his prime and could provide a nice boost to many attacks around Europe for the next few years. That should allow Inter to get a decent return for him. His buy option at Bayern was worth 20 million euros and thy should still be able to get that out of somebody this summer.

Selling Perisic would be a perfect way for Inter to free up some funds this summer for the last couple of signings they need to make to finish building this squad. He’s not going to play for Conte anyway, so they should capitalize as soon as possible on the value he has left.

Roberto Gagliardini

The Inter Milan midfield became extremely crowded last summer when they added <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/b70bde8f/Stefano-Sensi?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Stefano Sensi and <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/6928979a/Nicolo-Barella?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Nicolo Barella to the squad. That was enough to make it difficult to envision a path to playing time for <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/ce30bfc8/Roberto-Gagliardini?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22>Roberto Gagliardini moving forward. Then his situation got even worse when Inter signed Christian Eriksen.

googletag.enableServices();
googletag.display("minutemedia_slideshow_inline_300x250__desktop__tablet");
});

That just about ensured that Gagliardini wouldn’t be able to work his way back into the starting lineup. Now, the latest transfer rumor says that Inter Milan is the frontrunner to land <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2020/05/14/6-players-inter-milan-sell-transfer/"https://fbref.com/en/players/0db169ae/Sandro-Tonali?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sandro Tonali this summer. If that proves to be true then it would necessitate a sale in the midfield.

When the whole squad was healthy this season, Gagliardini was the midfielder who saw the least time. With no reason to believe that will change, Inter needs to begin taking a look at potential landing spots for Gagliardini over the summer.

At just 26 and with plenty of experience in Inter’s starting lineup, Gagliardini should have some suitors over the summer who could convince Inter to sell. There are plenty of teams out there who are in need of reinforcements in their midfield and Gagliardini could certainly fit right into plenty of starting lineups.

Inter is going to need to sell some players this summer to generate funds and make room for any signings they might make. Gagliardini is one of the best options Inter has to sell this summer who could actually bring in a solid return and not hurt the overall quality of the squad. If they make it happen then it would certainly help them build their squad this summer.
<!—pageview_candidate—>
">
