Barcelona would replace Sergio Busquets with this Tottenham star
Few players can emulate the Barcelona superstar that is Sergio Busquets…
Sergio Busquets has been a loyal servant to Barcelona for many years now. Not only has he been a loyal member of the Catalan team, but he has also provided many top-class performances and moulded himself into one of the best midfielders in the world. He often doesn’t get enough credit for this.
However, the overriding constraint of being a sportsman is ageing. You can keep yourself in tip-top condition, as Sergio Busquets has, but everybody reaches that cut-off point. Busquets ages at 31, so he still has a few more seasons playing at the top level. However, Barcelona will want to start thinking long-term about who will replace him in the midfield.
The answer seems to be very clear; Tanguy Ndombele. The French midfielder is looking for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since he has fallen out with new manager Jose Mourinho. It’s not indicative of his own character, as Barcelona fans know all too well that Mourinho can be a nightmare.
Ndombele is an immensely talented midfielder and I often compare him to Mousa Dembele. Both are severely underrated, of course, but both share the same traits too. Ndombele is a powerhouse dribbler, which you don’t see often nowadays. His broad frame gives him plenty of strength but he is also light enough on his feet to make it out of sticky situations.
It’s this level of versatility which Barcelona will look for in their successor. After all, Barca will have to adapt their philosophy a lot since much of their tactics in recent seasons has revolved around the work of the Spaniard.
It’s likely that Barcelona will lose Busquets and Lionel Messi during the same time period, so it truly will be the end of an era. However, it’s no reason to panic, as long as they look into replacements such as Tanguy Ndombele.
