Liverpool will not be signing Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale this summer
Jurgen Klopp is not interested in signing big individuals at Liverpool…
Liverpool endured a very successful campaign last season. They fought right until the end against Manchester City in the Premier League, before securing their sixth Champions League title. It was their first trophy in many seasons and the first of the Jurgen Klopp era.
Klopp is definitely building something special at Liverpool, however, this transfer window has been worrying for them. They have yet to sign a big name, with their biggest transfer involvement being the sale of Danny Ings.
According to The Independent, Gareth Bale is not going to be the man that changes Liverpool’s transfer window. The English outlet reports that Jurgen Klopp is focused on building a team, rather than looking out for individuals.
This can be taken one of two ways. If you’re a glass-half-full type of person, then it’s great to see Klopp is focused on maintaining the squad strength he built last season. However, if you’re a glass-half-empty type, then you could easily argue that individuals need to be signed in order for a team to be built.
After all, Manchester City showed great togetherness last season, however, they still signed an excellent individual in Rodri this summer. Barcelona showed great collectiveness throughout the majority of last season, however, they still splashed the cash on Antoine Griezmann. That’s just football.
However, I have to applaud Klopp for not giving in to the Bale temptation. The Welshman is not what Liverpool needs right now, both from a tactical and mental standpoint. He would come in and ruin what Liverpool has – a bunch of players who are all motivated to fight for the badge.
I think the first step for Liverpool this summer would be to sign a worthy backup goalkeeper. For this, I believe Tom Heaton is the best option. He is entering the final season of his contract with Burnley, so he would not cost too much money. He is a proven professional, being one the best goalkeepers outside of the top six for some seasons now.
