Manchester United shouldn’t loan Jesse Lingard, they should sell

This is an embarrassing decision from Manchester United.

Manchester United appear to be close to returning to the success they faced in their glory days. Obviously, they are still a long way off the Sir Alex Ferguson era but to be top of the table at this stage of the season is very impressive and if they can beat Liverpool to extend their lead, rivals should really start to fear the Red Devils again.

That being said, just because their on-field persona is improving and becoming more mighty, this doesn’t mean behind the scenes they are free from scrutiny. According to a report from Sky Sports, Manchester United are considering loaning out Jesse Lingard, as the Englishman has been in contact with Nice.

Obviously, from the player’s perspective, this is a good move. The European championships will commence a year late this summer, meaning he must get game time in order to convince Gareth Southgate he is worthy of a shot. If he can’t guarantee this at Old Trafford, a loan move would be good for him.

But as far as Manchester United are concerned, they should be severely embarrassed. In my opinion, Lingard shouldn’t even be playing for them at this stage of time. He is one of the most overrated players in the Premier League and doesn’t deserve to be starting for United.

Loaning out players is what you tend to do with youth products or one-great players that need to regain their form. Lingard is none of those, he is 28 years old and has not even come close to showing that he’s in the prime stages of his career. I know goals and assists aren’t everything, but he doesn’t provide as much to the United XI as the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, both much younger and more energetic.

Do you think Manchester United should sell or loan Jesse Lingard?
