Premier League: Who will win the league this season?

The new season is upon us, and the English Premier League is set to return for what promises to be another enthralling season, with the big clubs ready to do battle for the PL Trophy. So which club will have their hands on the big prize come May?

After Leicester City’s shock title win last year, we know anything is possible in the world’s biggest and most viewed league. And with the new TV deal in place, which has helped teams generate millions and millions, they have been able to spend sums on players that they wouldn’t have imagined a few seasons ago.

Leicester’s triumph last season prompted a response from the big sides who have played their hand in the transfer market, signing some world-class players and managers, to make sure that we don’t see a repeat of last season.

The two Manchester clubs have both seen a change in manager, with City appointing Pep Guardiola and United responding by hiring Jose Mourinho to lead the club back to the glory days. Chelsea have also appointed a world-class manager in Antonio Conte and these three will be the biggest contenders for the title.

Both United and City have also spent big with United breaking their bank and acquiring French midfielder Paul Pogba for a world record £89 million. They have also signed a world-class striker in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and powerful centre back Eric Bailly. They also have promising attackers in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and with mastermind Jose Mourinho now at the helm, United look to be in a great shape heading into the new season.

Manchester United have started their season with a trophy and will be favorites for the Premier League too

Pep Guardiola has also spent a lot of money, signing Spanish attacker Nolito, Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Schalke winger Leroy Sane, talented striker Gabriel Jesus, and English centre back John Stones. They join what is already a very strong side led by Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Vincent Kompany and David Silva. And Manchester City will provide a strong challenge to their neighbours for the title.

These two will be the favourites for title, and it will be interesting to see how the Pep vs Mourinho rivalry develops, with the two having faced each other before with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Chelsea will be the third favorites for the title, with Conte signing Leicester’s influential midfielder N’Golo Kante, and young Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, adding to their talented group of players which includes Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Thibaut Courtois. Conte did a brilliant job with Italy in the recently concluded European Championships, and Chelsea fans will be hoping he can achieve something similar with them.

Arsenal have signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, however they are still a centre back and a striker shy of posing a real challenge to the big there. But with quality players in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, they can be the dark horses this season. Liverpool have also made some shrewd signings, but it remains to be seen if their new players can adapt quickly enough.

Champions Leicester have lost powerhouse midfielder N’Golo Kante, but have made some quality signings. However it’ll be difficult for them to achieve what they did last season, with the added pressure of Champions League football.

But as last season showed us, anything can happen in the unpredictable English Premier League. And no matter who wins, it will be an invigorating and captivating season ahead for fans and teams alike.
