Arsenal could give the fans what they want by selling Granit Xhaka

The Arsenal captain’s curse has taken a new twist…

One of Arsenal’s main flaws of the last decade and the reason they have not won the Premier League in that time is their lack of leadership. They have failed to bring in a worthy captain; somebody that loves the club enough and can lead by example.

Granit Xhaka ticked one of those boxes during his time as captain. He genuinely seems to love Arsenal, however, his work ethic on the pitch is not enough to win over the fans. And rightly so, after all, he is a real liability in the middle of the pitch.

Xhaka is seen as one of if not the best players in Switzerland, hence he captains his country on international duty. However, with Arsenal, it is a different tale. This was emphasised in last week’s match against Crystal Palace, where he was booed off the pitch and he reacted in a way that was not exemplary.

Since then, Granit Xhaka has been stripped of the captaincy and instead it has been given to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. In fact, Unai Emery even extended his punishment for Xhaka to not including him in the matchday squad for this afternoon’s match against Vitoria SC, which the Gunners ended up drawing.

New reports from The Mirror suggest that Granit Xhaka could be sold in January. The report claims that due to growing tension following his captaincy being stripped, the Arsenal board could deem only one option fit and that is to sell the midfielder.

Xhaka would not be missed entirely by the Arsenal fans but it would mean a switch in tactics by Emery. It would mean that Matteo Guendouzi would have to take on a more authoritative role as the main dictator of play, should a replacement not be signed in January of course.

Do you think that it’s best for Arsenal to sell Granit Xhaka?
