Chelsea plan strategy to sign Declan Rice and it’s not good for Jorginho

Frank Lampard wants to add to Chelsea’s strong English core.

Chelsea have been incredibly active in this summer’s transfer window, which I suppose was to be expected. Frank Lampard was not able to make his personal touches last summer since the Blues were suffering a transfer ban, so now he has the opportunity to do so, he isn’t going to let the Coronavirus pandemic get in the way.

The Chelsea board are backing him all the way too, as they often do with their managers. The signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been confirmed ready for next season, with the club keen to add to this list.

According to a new report from the Daily Star, Chelsea have a strategy in mind that could see them raise the £65m they’ll need for West Ham starlet Declan Rice. However, it could see Jorginho being sold, with Juventus a possible destination for the Italian.

Jorginho has had a topsy-turvy season with the Blues. He was very good to begin with, but as time went on, his performances become more and more average. Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount have taken the limelight.

While Jorginho hasn’t been poor, he certainly won’t be missed too much. His defensive midfield work can easily be replaced by Rice, who even has experience playing as a centre-back if that isn’t convincing enough.

Rice will be hopeful of getting a place in Gareth Southgate‘s plans as he prepares for Euro 2021. It’s undeniable that he will have a greater chance of doing so for Chelsea, in the Champions League, than he will for West Ham. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it works.

If Lampard can sign Rice, then he would be adding to the impressive English core, and Mason Mount would almost definitely benefit.

Do you think Chelsea will sign Declan Rice this summer?
