Inter Milan: Who replaces Antonio Conte should he leave?
Antonio Conte is never afraid to speak his mind; that however, might end his time in Milan
After Antonio Conte called out his ownership for allowing them to be criticized all campaign, tensions are certainly high. Rumors from Sportskeeda now suggest that he may not be the manager of Inter after the current European campaign ends.
While it appeared throughout the season as though Inter were building a powerhouse of premier players, ownership may need to find a new skipper to sail the proverbial ship ahead.
But if this is the route they absolutely must go, who might be best suited? Names like Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino jump out first and foremost; might there be others? Amongst them, who might be the best manager for the position?
Massimiliano Allegri or Mauricio Pochettino: Is either a good successor to Antonio Conte?
First and foremost, yes; either would be a fantastic choice to manage the Nerazzuri with the selection of players they have currently. Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Lautaro Martinez and Christian Erickson are amongst the most high profile names; the new signing of wing back Achraf Hakimi is only further ammunition for any future manager.
For Mauricio Pochettino, he simply needs another shot; at Tottenham, he was given the short end of the deal as boss in London. After guiding Hotspur to great success across his time as the boss, a slow start this past campaign left him in the lurch, and he was sacked before the new year had even begun.
Were he to have the aforementioned roster already at Inter, as well as the purse available to their manager, it is impossible to know just how good they might be together.
Meanwhile, with Massimiliano Allegri, you know what you can expect; he knows how to win trophies in Italy and his shape does not allow for much room to operate as an opponent. In this way, he is similar to the man he replaced at Juventus years ago, and may be replacing once more just now.
Allegri is older and, has more experience perhaps; it is not easy to know whether that is something that Inter care about as they build this team going ahead. With that said, I think that Pochettino’s age and relative experience should be a sufficient counterweight when having this discussion.
But there are other managers as well of course.
The Other Managers, of course
Jorge Jesus is the first other name to come to mind; had he not recently moved to Benfica, it is difficult to imagine a more masterful and under the radar manager in the world.
Were Maurizio Sarri relieved of his duties in Turin with Juventus, he could very well be an easy candidate as well. His style is envied across Italy and Europe; his mannerisms on the other hand, are not always envied.
Are there others? Surely, but that is an endless exercise in speculation; I think Allegri and Pochettino are the hottest and most expected names should the position become truly available.
Who might suit the position best?
Mauricio Pochettino: The next opportunity for him should Antonio Conte resign
After being replaced at Tottenham earlier this season, Poch did not hurry back into managing. He has watched and surveyed Europe at large. The opportunity at Inter Milan would be best for him and his career; unless Juventus make a last ditch attempt for him, I can see n better or ore obvious option.
Massimiliano Allegri is a great manager but with Mauricio Pochettino, the opportunity exists to have a long term manager if all sides stay committed. His age, experience and passion should not be undervalued as the fiery Antonio Conte is further evidence of in its own right.
With this said, for Inter Milan, Pochettino might only be the second best candidate available to coach the team; Antonio Conte still tops this list.
Romelu Lukaku has raved about him, and he isn’t alone throughout the managerial career of Antonio Conte; while he rubs some people the wrong way, he certainly cant be accused of getting minimal effort or return from his squad. If he cannot be retained, then an Inter Milan under Mauricio Pochettino is one that demands attention from Italy and all of Europe at large.
