Manchester United: Solskjaer gives up signing former striker

Manchester United may need to rush if they wish to sign a striker…

The deadline for the January transfer window is fast approaching and Manchester United have secured the signing of Bruno Fernandes, as revealed via their social channels yesterday. That said, fans are hopeful that at least one more move will be made on deadline day.

Seeing their rival teams strengthening in positions of need, for example, Arsenal signing full-back Cedric Soares, they will want to replicate this further. A position which United need to strengthen is their striker role since Rashford cannot keep carrying the Red Devils forward without backup.

In truth, Manchester United should have signed a striker in the summer transfer window when they had to bid farewell to Romelu Lukaku. However, they failed to do so and have suffered the repercussions in the league because of it.

According to Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company have cooled their interest in Bournemouth striker Josh King. The Norwegian striker spent his early career in Manchester before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2013. He now plays for Bournemouth and is in the prime stages of his career.

The Cherries have reportedly rejected an offer from United already. Given the fast nature of deadline day, it’s easy to see why Ed Woodward is looking elsewhere in the hunt for a striker.

Joshua King is a very versatile forward who can play pretty much anywhere along the front line. He can also play as an advanced midfielder. Given United’s acquisition of Fernandes, this wouldn’t have been of much use but it was still good to know.

There are options for Manchester United. Dries Mertens is rumoured to be on the move and Danny Ings started this season as one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Although, with the former, it is more a case of whether or not he is willing to step on past loyalties.
