Chelsea’s five most overrated players- Several starters make the list
In the years since Frank Lampard (bless him), John Terry (less so) and Didier Drogba (bless him) have left Chelsea Football Club the West London outfit has become a safe haven for the overrated and overpaid footballers of the world.
It is impossible to tell what has gone wrong at Chelsea Football Club in recent years. People will claim that the club has won things (oranges are in fact also orange) and that means everything is great.
Not so, Chelsea defended their title in historically poor fashion the time before last and appear to be doing an almost equally terrible job this time around.
The answer is that Chelsea FC have built this second coming of their squad on a spine of overrated players some of whom think it is possible to in fact substitute complaints about coaching and tactics for hard work and graft. Chelsea’s lat 2010’s team seems to be a collection of baby’s complainers and whingebags.
Here are the worst of them:
not even in the top 15 goalkeepers in Europe statistically and as a leader (which a goalkeeper must be) he is even further down the pecking order.

Courtois is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the modern footballer. He cannot help but talk to the media and courts dressing room disturbing controversy for fun. This is the young man who at 21 decided it was he who should decide whether club legend Petr Cech stayed or went?

Cech by the way still has better statistical goalkeeping numbers than the Belgian. His ridiculously entitled nerve showed itself again when he complained that it was in fact Christophe Lollichon, the historically famous and fantastic goalkeeping coach, who was to blame for his play and not him. Courtois is everything that is wrong with this current Chelsea squad and the modern-day footballer.

He’s the most overrated player perhaps in Europe as well as the most entitled and genuinely a poor example to every young footballer strapping on a pair of goalkeeping gloves.

David Luiz

This is a tough one because Luiz is so likable. That though is where he has been let down for years. Luiz because of his charming smile and perfect personality has been left off the hook time and time again. It’s a terrible thing happening to the man and it must stop.

David Luiz was just dropped by Brazil. Finally.

He’s an incredibly gifted footballer. His technique is sublime and he’s more athletic than most gazelles but the mental side of his game is so poor that it’s saddening. Luiz’s concentration levels are low and his judgement is poor. It’s true last season he was wonderful but does it shock anyone that he’s been at best awful this season?

Defenders need to be consistent, dependable, smart and tough. It’s a position in which talent can at times be substituted for pure simple work ethic, selflessness and commitment. David Luiz has this balance all wrong. He could be perhaps the best defender in the world or at least on a level with his Brazilian compatriot Thiago Silva. But where Silva is a rock of dedication and commitment Luiz is apparently off chasing thrills and following his instincts too much.

Luiz could be phenomenal but at age 30 he’s making the mistakes that an 18-year-old learning the game makes. It’s time for Chelsea to cut the cord.

Cesc Fabregas

Like Luiz Fabregas’ fans have let him down for years. There’s no reason in the world why Fabregas shouldn’t be on the same level as the Xavi’s, Pirlo’s and Scholes’ of the world. The only reason he isn’t is because Fabregas has so criminally gotten away with being half a footballer for too long.

Fabregas is a fantastic passer of the football there’s no doubt about that. Anybody who think otherwise is either A blind, B dumb, or C just plain ignorant. He’s got some of the best vision in the world. However that coupled with his genuinely atrocious work ethic, poor tackling and lack of any semblance of pace makes him mediocre.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2017/10/21/chelseas-five-overrated-players/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/nH-PR0cf4pg?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

This is a player that Barcelona saw fit to let leave the club twice. Barcelona are many good and bad things surely but they are phenomenal evaluators of talent. As a teenager they let Cesc leave and then bought him back and then barely played him and sold him again. To be in such close proximity to the player with the economic pressure of his purchase and still be unable to play him says something.
Fabregas needs a full extra player behind him just to clean up the amount of space he leaves unmarked and to tackle the players he can’t be bothered to track. How is that at all helpful to a team?

Michy Batshuayi

Another player who gets too much credit for simply being a likable guy. Michy is hysterical on social media and well liked by his teammates but he’s simply not good enough. The difficult thing here is that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte clearly doesn’t rate him very highly so he can’t be that overrated.

googletag.enableServices();
googletag.display("minutemedia_slideshow_inline_300x250__desktop__tablet");
});

It’s simple in this scenario: Michy Batshuayi has been atrocious in every game he has played against top-level competition. His goal numbers are inflated by the fact that he scored a large amount of goals in a match against Nottingham Forest.

Against bigger and better teams though he has been a horror show. Honestly it doesn’t make sense. He’s fast, strong and committed and yet for some reason just a black hole of misplaced passes and poor control when he’s on the pitch. This one is mainly a shame.

<a class="next-slide-btn" style="background: #0" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="next-slide-shortcode" href=https://playingfor90.com/2017/10/21/chelseas-five-overrated-players/"#"> Next: Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso

Alonso had a couple good matches at the beginning of the season when the transfer window was open and he feared being replaced by Alex Sandro. Since it has closed he has returned to being a slow winger and a mediocre defender.

Marcos Alonso is not a terrible footballer. His left foot is useful from set pieces and he’s a great free kick taker. The issue is that he’s slow and an uncommitted defender.

When in the attacking third Alonso does the same thing every time. He tries to cross with his left foot and if he doesn’t he cuts inside onto his right. The issue here is that he’s so slow the defender simply walks a little further and nips the ball off his toe leaving Alonso out of position and Chelsea exposed.
