With his contract expiring in one year and rumours swirling about unhappiness and wanting to leave the club, here are five teams that should be targeting Alexis Sanchez in the summer.
With one year left on his contract the rumours about the future of Alexis Sanchez’s at Arsenal have been one of the key talking points of the season and definitely of Arsenals season. The Chilean’s future has been in doubt over the course of the season with Arsenal refusing or at least seeming hesitant to pay Sanchez the wages that he is demanding but the issue brewing between Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal seem to be much more than just a pay dispute.
Watching Sanchez on the pitch it’s obvious that the man wants to win and seems to be getting more and more frustrated with his team who are not challenging for titles once again this season apart from an FA Cup run and have just been battered for the third straight time by Bayern Munich resulting in Arsenal once again being eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16 for the seventh year running.
It’d be more surprising this summer if Alexis Sanchez signs a new contract extension with Arsenal to keep him at the club than it would be if he was to leave. As of right now, it seems obvious to everybody who has been following the story that Alexis Sanchez is going to leave the club in the summer as his entire body language and demeanour suggests.
It’s becoming nearly every game that Sanchez looks frustrated with his team mates and being dropped to the bench last Saturday for Arsenal’s game against Liverpool along with reports about a bust-up in training with team mates would indicate that Sanchez wants to leave the club.
If Alexis Sanchez does decide to leave the club, it’ll be a huge loss to Arsenal as the Chilean has been Arsenals best player this season scoring twenty-one goals and seventeen assists in thirty-one appearances in all competitions predominately playing up front as a striker for Arsenal. With Arsenals typical transfer windows, it’d appear that the club would struggle to replace him just has they’ve struggled to properly replace Robin Van Persie who left for Manchester United back in 2012 who, like Sanchez, had only one year left on his contract before departing the club in pursuit of wanting to win trophies.
There will be a host of clubs after Alexis Sanchez in the summer, the Chilean is a world-class player who can operate either upfront or on the wing and with his contract only having a left year before he could potentially leave on a free, Arsenal will have to sell at a cut-rate price compared to what they could have commanded had he longer on his deal.
There is the potential option for Arsenal to turn down all bids for Alexis Sanchez and keep him for another season and let his deal expire, like Dortmund did seasons ago with Robert Lewandowski, but this is not something Arsenal are known for doing and will more than likely try to get something out of Alexis Sanchez by selling him, again like Robin Van Persie.
So which clubs could potentially be looking for Alexis Sanchez in the summer? Here’s at least five clubs that should be battling it out for his signing:

Paris Saint-Germain

Wednesday night saw Barcelona do the impossible and become the first club in Champions League history to overturn a 4-0 deficit to eliminate PSG by winning 6-1. While it is easily the greatest comeback in football history, it shows a great concern for PSG who managed to squander not only a 4-0 first leg win but also the advantage of having an away goal advantage by conceding three goals in the final seven minutes of the game.

The result is humiliating for PSG and it’s a gigantic failure on their part to not have qualified into the quarter-finals and while there can be arguments over the referee’s decision to award Luis Suarez a penalty towards the end of the game was justified or if Suarez dived, PSG never should have found themselves in that position to begin with.

The PSG board have made no secret about their ambitions to win the Champions League and sacked Laurent Blanc last year after his continued failure to progress past the quarter-finals of the competition each season and hired Unai Emery due to his fantastic work at Sevilla which seen him win three Europa Leagues in a row but failure on this level will not be accepted by PSG and with them three points behind Monaco in Ligue 1 despite having a team filled with world-class players and having spent millions on players with huge wages will be seen as nothing short of failure.

The biggest criticism that can be given to the PSG players on Wednesday night is that the players clearly looked frightened of Barcelona and there was no clear leader on the pitch, Sanchez may not be a future captain for PSG but his winning mentality would be a massive benefit to this team that clearly needs it. PSG would love to have a player like Alexis Sanchez in their team and a front line consisting of Edinson Cavani, Angel di Maria and Alexis Sanchez with Marco Verratti behind them is truly frightening.

PSG most certainly can afford the wages that Sanchez would demand and would be willing to pay him it if they felt that the player was serious about moving to France. <a href=https://playingfor90.com/2017/03/12/5-clubs-that-should-target-alexis-sanchez/"http://metro.co.uk/2017/03/06/paris-saint-germain-confident-of-alexis-sanchez-deal-after-arsenal-bust-up-6490200/">There were reports earlier in the week that PSG felt confident about being able to sign Alexis and after an embarrassing elimination to Barcelona in mid-week, the French club will certainly be looking at him to improve their squad next season to make an improvement in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich

It would be quite ironic if Alexis Sanchez does leave Arsenal this summer that he could potentially end up at the club that routinely knocks them out of the Champions League every year. The obvious question is – does Bayern Munich need Alexis Sanchez? I’d argue that they potentially do need him. Bayern are a team that is filled with phenomenal players in all positions, highly flexible players for the most part that can play in multiple positions but they are also a team that rely on wide play which comes from Robben and Ribery, both of whom are in their 30s and are both susceptible to injuries quite frequently, having a player like Alexis Sanchez on the wing for Bayern would be an added bonus.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2017/03/12/5-clubs-that-should-target-alexis-sanchez/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/mGzzBh9lLhc?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

While Sanchez would not be a long-term replacement for Robben and Ribery, he would be a great option for the club for the following few years while they attempt to get a younger player to fill the void on the wing, they already have Kingsley Coman for one side on the flanks.

Bayern being able to field a team that features some kind of combination of Sanchez, Coman, Robben or Ribery on the flanks next season would be lethal and Sanchez’s ability to play up front would be another added bonus to the club should Robert Lewandowski suffer an injury. Bayern would have multiple options either on the flanks or up top in the striker position between Sanchez, Lewandowski or Thomas Muller.

The biggest issue for Bayern would be if they would be willing to pay the wages that Sanchez would want. Bayern are a very well run club, arguably the best run club in football in recent years and they are not a club like PSG who throw out massive wages at players, especially when they’re approaching twenty-nine years of age so the biggest question would be if Bayern will pay what Sanchez wants or if he’ll take a pay cut to join Bayern, knowing that joining Bayern gives him the best opportunity of winning the Champions League.

Juventus

Years ago when Alexis Sanchez played for Serie A side Udinese, Juventus very nearly signed Alexis before he decided to make the move to Barcelona. The Italian champions now have the ability to try and get Sanchez again in a bid to further improve their already impressive team.

Juventus are already the best team in Serie A with a team that is packed with fantastic players from back to front and they are dark horses in the Champions League with just being a tier behind the best clubs in the world such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Juventus winning the Champions League wouldn’t be out of the question and they almost did it two years ago when they reached the final in 2015 but came up short to a very good Barcelona team. The addition of Alexis Sanchez would potentially help Juventus become a legitimate favourite for the Champions League which is what the club is aspiring to do. Juventus dominate their own league every year like PSG and Bayern but unless something drastic happens in the league, it doesn’t appear likely that their dominance in the league will end any time soon.

Juventus have shown their own ambition for progress in the Champions League, splashing out 90 million euro for Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli in the summer and giving the highly talented Paulo Dybala a new contract on high money so the club would have no problems offering Sanchez high wages especially if it means that they could further their chances in winning the Champions League. There is an open slot for Sanchez to fit into in the team, with him replacing Mario Mandzukic on the left flank to partner with Higuain and Dybala as well which greatly benefit the Juventus team.

Ideally if Alexis Sanchez does decide to leave the club, Arsenal would prefer it if he moved to a team in a different league but Arsenal throughout recent years have shown that they are willing to sell key players to teams within the same league as them – Robin Van Persie to Man United, Ashley Cole to Chelsea, Nasri/Clichy/Sagna to Man City and with the exception of Fabregas to Barcelona, they’ve always sold key players to Premier League teams in the last decade so the idea of Sanchez joining another team in England really isn’t too much of a stretch if there is serious interest from Chelsea.

Sanchez’s work-rate and mentality would fit in well with Antonio Conte’s team, Sanchez runs all game and is well-known for working hard and giving it his all on the pitch. He would also give Chelsea more added depth to the team as with them competing in the Champions League next season and having more games to play, they won’t be able to field the same team every week as they usually do. Sanchez would be coming in to replace Pedro in the first team or to rotate ideally with Diego Costa or even to replace Costa if the rumours about him potentially moving to China are true, despite being highly unlikely.

Manchester United

This one is very unlikely to happen, even more so than Sanchez heading to Chelsea and for good reasoning. While United do have depth in attack and have quality players for a first eleven, Jose Mourinho’s team have lacked goals this season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the only player capable of scoring goals and this over reliance on one player is not good for the team because if Zlatan goes out of form, has a bad game or gets injured, there is a serious problem for United in terms of where the goals are actually going to come for.

The addition of Sanchez would help with this problem, as Sanchez is capable of scoring goals by the dozen and similar to Chelsea, Sanchez would be an ideal Jose Mourinho player because of his work-rate. Mourinho likes his players on the wing to be able to track back and defend while also contributing in attack and this is exactly what Sanchez would provide United should he opt to follow in the footsteps of Robin Van Persie and make the move to Old Trafford.

It does seem highly unlikely that United will go for Sanchez with them seemingly targeting Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid but there are question marks over whether Griezmann would be the smartest option for United – there is no doubting his quality as a player and he would fit into a 4-3-2-1 formation that Mourinho likes to use but this formation does not get the best out of Paul Pogba as opposed to a three man midfield but you don’t get the best out of Griezmann upfront by himself nor out on the wing whereas neither of these are a problem for Alexis Sanchez who can operate very well up front or on the wing and while not only being cheaper to buy, he’d fit seemingly into United’s way of playing and should be a player that Jose Mourinho decides to seriously consider looking at.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
