Hugo Lloris-6
Some fans might think this rating is harsh on the French keeper. However, I have to point out that Lloris got his hands to the loan Leicester goal. Denying Ahmed Musa one v one isn’t easy, but it’s what Premier League keepers are paid to do. Lloris was certainly capable of keeping that one dangerous effort out of the back of his net.
On the bright side, I thought Lloris did a nice job distributing the ball from the back. I’ve been critical of some of his long kicks as of late, but he was really good with long throws today. Look for him to rely more on his arms in the future.
Jan Vertonghen-8.5
I don’t think there’s any question this was Vertonghen’s best match of the season. He did an excellent job commanding the Spurs back four in the absence of Toby Alderweireld.
Vertonghen was also Tottenham’s most dangerous attacker of the second half. In many ways that’s an indictment of the club’s second half performance, but it is a complement to Vertonghen. He hit the bar with a terrific header that could have easily given Tottenham a commanding 2-1 lead.
Eric Dier-7
Quietly, this might have been Dier’s best effort of the season too. He managed to avoid much notice against the Leicester attack, which was a good thing from a Spurs perspective.
It was a bit surprising that Dier didn’t contribute more going forward since he’s typically deployed as a defensive midfielder. Perhaps that was due to his manager’s instructions though. Hard to downgrade him for staying home against Jamie Vardy and company.

Danny Rose-7

The English left back continued his excellent season with another influential match yesterday. I was particularly impressed that he wasn’t caught out by the Leicester attack on even one occasion.

The only criticism I might level against Rose was his inability to really contribute to the Spurs attack. He got himself into several very dangerous positions, but wasn’t able to really contribute to a goal. That might be a little too critical, but Rose could have done better given the time and space he had on the ball.

Kyle Walker-7.5

Quietly and without notice, Kyle Walker has emerged as one of Tottenham’s most consistent players. He played another really solid match against Leicester yesterday.

Somewhat amazingly, he kept Riyad Mahrez in his pocket for most of the match. It’s hard to remember more than one time the Algerian star was able to trouble the Spurs defense. Walker deserves a lion’s share of the credit for keeping him off the score sheet.

Victor Wanyama-6

I feel pretty terrible criticizing Wanyama at all. He’s been so steady for the team all season that it seems unfair to bury him for one big mistake. However, his poor handling of the ball did directly lead to Leicester’s only goal of the match.

It seemed like a brain cramp of sorts for the physical midfielder. I suppose he’s allowed a mental error after the amount of good football he’s played for Spurs this season. Unfortunately, his teammates weren’t able to make up for Wanyama’s costly mistake.

Moussa Dembele-6.5

The Belgian midfielder’s effort yesterday really disappointed me. He did an adequate job of shielding the back four, but he contributed almost nothing to the Tottenham attack.

That’s simply not good enough for a player of his considerable talent. Part of his skill set is the ability to glide forward with the ball. He didn’t do enough of that to help his club defeat Leicester yesterday.

Dele Alli-7.5

I must confess I was very irritated when Alli was taken off the pitch in the 83rd minute. He looked dangerous for long stretches of the match and I really believe he was the Spur with the best chance to score.

He certainly gave his teammates several quality opportunities. Alli earned the club several free kicks in very dangerous positions that Christian Eriksen was unable to convert. We also can’t forget his thundering volley that rattled the post in the opening half. Alli wasn’t perfect, but he did enough to earn Tottenham three points. Sadly, he didn’t get much help.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2016/10/30/tottenham-drawspur-player-ratings-v-leicester-city/2/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/nv8onHk5rxg?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

Christian Eriksen-6.5

Very frankly, I wasn’t please at all with Eriksen’s effort against the Foxes. He refused to commit to any 50/50 challenges on the match and I just find that unacceptable. Eriksen was very fortunate to survive for 90 minutes on the pitch.

I also expect players of the Dane’s caliber to avoid hitting the first man on multiple corner kicks. Eriksen is justifiably known as a deal ball specialist, but wasted several corners on the afternoon. Additionally, he failed to hurt the Foxes via free kicks from dangerous areas. It was a very forgettable afternoon for the talented, but inconsistent midfielder.

Son Heung-Min-6

The Korean attacker’s hot streak seems like it occurred several seasons ago at this point. He put in yet another empty performance in this match.

The trouble with Son is that when he isn’t contributing goals and/or assists, he isn’t giving his side very much. He gives Pochettino almost nothing from a defensive perspective. Son should rediscover his goal scoring touch soon if he wants to stay in the starting XI.

Vincent Janssen-7.5

If you are a Spurs fan that wasn’t satisfied with Janssen’s effort on the pitch today, then you should really find another club to support. He worked his tail off for the full 90 minutes against Leicester’s physical centre backs.

Normally I don’t give players a ton of credit for slotting a penalty home, but Janssen gets full credit for the goal since he drew the penalty. Some might have considered it a soft penalty, but the sum total of his work on the day deserved a goal.

It wasn’t a perfect match for the burly striker, but it was a step in the right direction for his Spurs career. Let’s hope he can build off this performance moving forward. He could be a key Plan B off the bench after Harry Kane returns to the starting XI.

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou-7

It’s time for the quick Frenchman to get some additional playing time. He looked very bright off the Spurs bench yesterday, and his fearless, direct style of play could have turned match in Tottenham’s favor.

I will go so far as to say that he should start in Son’s place for the club’s upcoming Champions League match against Leverkusen. That might seem like a knee-jerk reaction to the club’s struggles to score, but I think it could be just the kick in the arse the Tottenham attack needs.

Harry Winks-6.5

The Spurs starlet struggled mightily against Liverpool in the EFL Cup, but looked much better in his cameo against the Foxes. He didn’t have a ton of time to make a huge impact, but he definitely looked to push his squad forward. Winks still isn’t ready for big time Premier League competition, but he took a step in the right direction today.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
