5. His work at Tottenham isn’t done
Men like Pochettino take great pride in finishing things they’ve begun. The Spurs manager is clearly off to a great start at Tottenham, but he certainly hasn’t completed his work.
You can’t underestimate the importance of the youth of his current squad. Many of his best players still have significant career growth in front of them. Players like Dele Alli and Harry Kane have real world-class potential. If Pochettino can elevate their games to that level, the results could be magnificent for the team.
Things would be much different if Pochettino had won even a single piece of silverware for the Tottenham faithful. Currently, he only has a Cup Final and a 3rd place finish in the league on his resume. If he left now, he’d leave far short of his own expectations for his time with the club.
Real Madrid are certainly a more talented side than Spurs right now, but they aren’t going anywhere. Pochettino could easily decide to stay put until he really accomplishes something noteworthy in the Premier League.
The Mirror has the story that Real’s failure to capture a La Liga crown since 2012 as higher-ups at the club anxious to make a managerial change. Presumably, they’re interested in Pochettino due to the attractive brand of football he employs at White Hart Lane.

It’s not an exaggeration to say this would be the worst possible scenario for Spurs. Just as the club have finally gotten the manager of their dreams, losing him to Madrid would be a crushing blow.

Fortunately, I believe there are quite a few reasons why Pochettino might actually snub the La Liga giants to remain with Spurs. The two clubs are in very different places than they were when the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale made the decision to head to Spain.

Read on to discover the top five reasons that Mauricio Pochettino should snub Real Madrid to continue his Tottenham project.

Even a club legend like Zinedine Zidane is just a manager at Real Madrid. Pochettino would never be able to really wield significant power and influence over transfer decisions there.

In sharp contrast, Pochettino has continued to acquire more and more influence over every aspect of football at Tottenham during his tenure. It’s not impossible that he could ultimately take over almost every aspect of football for Spurs.

Look at the evidence thus far. He started off as the club’s head coach but quickly earned the title of manager after his promising start. He and the club downplayed any distinction at the time of the announcement, but it clearly meant something to everyone at White Hart Lane.

Principally, it solidified Pochettino’s influence over the club’s transfer decisions. From his first day on the job he’d been able to jettison anyone he liked, but now he is a powerful voice regarding who the club will acquire in the transfer market. He’s never going to get that kind of power for Real Madrid.

3. The allure of the new stadium

Tottenham fans aren’t the only people excited about the prospect of a new stadium at White Hart Lane. You can bet that every member of the club is very intrigued by the prospect of having a new home.

There’s a certain historical cache that goes along with being the Spurs manager to open an era in a new stadium. It’s just not something many managers can claim. It’s not enough reason to snub Real Madrid on its own, but it is powerful enough to factor into Pochettino’s decision.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2016/10/30/5-reasons-mauricio-pochettino-snub-real-madrid-stay-tottenham/2/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/TWRZSmd3adc?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

It’s more than that though. The closer Tottenham get to competing in their new grounds, the more excitement will grow around the club. That palpable energy will make it easier to acquire new players and motivate the current squad. It’s a real opportunity to create something special.

Moving out of the hallowed grounds of White Hart Lane will hurt every Spurs fan, but the chance to play in a brand new stadium could help the club hold on to Pochettino.

<a class="next-slide-btn" style="background: #0" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="next-slide-shortcode" href=https://playingfor90.com/2016/10/30/5-reasons-mauricio-pochettino-snub-real-madrid-stay-tottenham/2/"#"> Next: 2.
2. Tottenham’s squad listens

Mauricio Pochettino’s managerial style isn’t a perfect fit for every squad. He demands so much of his players that in many ways, he needs to have young talent he can mold. His roster is composed of such players now, but he’d inherit a very established roster at Real Madrid.

.addService(googletag.pubads());
googletag.enableServices();
googletag.display("minutemedia_slideshow_inline_300x250__desktop__tablet");
});

That sort of roster could easily clash with Pochettino and his intense training regimens. For example, can anyone really see Cristiano Ronaldo agreeing to three practice sessions in one day? I can only imagine the incredulous look on CR7’s face when asked to track back intensely in defense.

Quite a few of Real Madrid’s veterans would really struggle to adapt to Pochettino’s style of play. At best, his arrival would cause significant roster upheaval for the La Liga giants. At worst, it could lead to complete and utter player revolt.

I suppose it’s possible that Pochettino could adapt his style to fit the roster at Real Madrid, but I just don’t think he’s that sort of manager. He’d rather quit than give up on the style of play he truly believes in.

1. Job security

A string of draws is a cause of annoyance for Tottenham. A string of draws at Real Madrid is grounds for dismissal. Pochettino would be smart to stick with the job security he has at Spurs.

Don’t forget that Real Madrid are contemplating sacking Zidane even though he’s won a Champions League title for the club. If Pochettino won a Champions League final for Spurs, they’d consider providing him a lifetime contract extension.

That’s only a slightly exaggeration. The reality is Pochettino has earned a great deal of patience from Daniel Levy and company. Levy has been quick to fire managers in the past, but he seems truly committed to Pochettino.

That means the talented manager can endure a spell of mixed results while in charge of Spurs. He would not enjoy the same luxury in Madrid. Perhaps he should just ask David Moyes about the perils of leaving a comfortable job for one of the world’s “elite” positions. Mauricio Pochettino would be wise to stay in his North London comfort zone.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
