5. Paulo Gazzaniga
We’ll start this piece off with the easiest call. The only way Paulo Gazzaniga will see the pitch against Everton is if both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm are unavailable. That would require a serious run of bad luck, even by Tottenham’s standards.
Gazzaniga was brought into the club to bridge the age and experience gap between Lloris, Vorm and the club’s cadre of Academy keepers. He is not a player that is ready to make a significant impact on the first team this year.
In fact, I believe Gazzaniga will be luck to make a first team appearance at any point this season. He may appear in a squad or two from the substitute’s bench, but Vorm and Lloris are going to keep him nailed to the bench barring injury or illness.
Right now, Gazzaniga’s role is to help Tottenham improve their keeping in training and to serve as eye candy for the club’s female fans. He will not be called upon to stop any shots at Goodison Park on Saturday.
0% chance
effusive with his praise of the Argentine centre back this week, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to make an impact this weekend. The centre back pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld will relegate Foyth to a bench role for the foreseeable future.

Unlike the case of Gazzaniga, Foyth has a significant opportunity to make an impact on the first team this year. If, as expected, Spurs transition to playing three at the back, he’ll likely find himself as the club’s top substitute off the bench. That should at least put him in good position to secure starts in lower level Cup matches.

It’s not impossible that he’ll play on Saturday, but it would take an injury or two to get him onto the pitch. He certainly isn’t going to play ahead of fellow new signing Davinson Sanchez. It’s also possible that Pochettino would slide Dier into a back four prior to bringing Foyth into the fray.

In the end, Foyth has a slight chance to see action at Everton, but Spurs fans should hope he doesn’t get near the pitch. His appearance on the field would mean a disastrous injury situation for Spurs.

3. Davinson Sanchez

Sanchez is one of two new signings who could realistically start the match at Everton. His ability to join the starting XI boils down to what formation Pochettino elects to play. If Poch chooses a 4-2-3-1 he’ll start the match on the bench. If he elects to go with a 3-4-3, the talented Colombian should find himself in the starting lineup.

As you can see by 40% likelihood, I believe it’s slightly more likely that Pochettino will go with four at the back. The injury to Danny Rose makes playing a back three (or five) more difficult. Ben Davies doesn’t have the pace to drive the Tottenham attack up the pitch.

Sanchez shouldn’t be discouraged by this. He’s the club’s record signing and they clearly didn’t buy him to leave him on the pitch very long. One of Pochettino’s biggest priorities is to get him ready for the starting XI as soon as possible. The Everton match just looks to be a bit too soon.

In another couple of weeks, Sanchez may easily become one of the first names on Pochettino’s team sheet. As it stands currently, he’ll enter the Everton match as his manager’s first defensive option off the bench.

Fernando Llorente

Don’t hyperventilate Tottenham fans. The high percentage I’ve placed on Llorente’s chances of playing against Everton don’t reflect poorly on Harry Kane. I fully expect the English talisman to get the starting nod.

});

The most likely scenario for Llorente is that he’ll enter the match as a second half substitute. Whether Spurs are chasing a goal or wish to strengthen their defence against set pieces, the addition of Llorente to the lineup could pay huge dividends.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://playingfor90.com/2017/09/09/tottenhams-new-signings-chances-star-will-play-v-everton/2/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/evLsQt_1sRU?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

There’s also a small chance that Pochettino could elect to surprise Everton by playing two strikers. Kane could drop a little deeper than normal and play off Llorente. Kane’s movement combined with Llorente’s presence in the box could flummox the Toffees’ defense.

Of course, such an aggressive lineup might leave Spurs too exposed in the midfield. That’s why I believe the smart money’s on Llorente to enter the match as a second half substitute. Tottenham fans hope he’ll be coming on to give Kane a rest with Spurs comfortably ahead.

1. Serge Aurier

Without a doubt, the player Tottenham fans most want to see on Saturday is fiery right back Serge Aurier. He’s arrived at the club with the highest level of acclaim and Spurs fans are concerned over Kieran Trippier’s ability to start at right back.

Unfortunately for Tottenham fans around the globe, the odds are stacked against seeing Aurier in the starting XI on Saturday. He only returned to London on Thursday after playing for the Ivory Coast during International Break. It’s hard to see him being ready to play a full 90 against the Toffees.

It’s also key to remember that Spurs have a massive Champions League fixture v Dortmund coming up midweek. As much as we’d all like to see Aurier play against Everton, it might be wise to hold him out until the Dortmund match. His pace could be the difference between Spurs earning a result or suffering a defeat against the Bundesliga power.
