After the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to provisionally suspend former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales for 90 days, the committee has now gone one step further.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee released a statement announcing a three-year ban from all football related activities for the now disgraced former  RFEF president.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has banned Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), from all football-related activities at national and international level for three years, having found that he acted in breach of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” the statement read.

“This case relates to the events that occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on 20 August 2023, for which Mr. Rubiales had been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days.”

The event in questions was when he picked up Jennifer Hermoso and kissed her without her consent. He was also captured on camera displaying other vulgar behavior after the full-time whistle.

Despite playing down the incident and issuing a half-hearted apology, the calls for his dismissal continued. He continually doubled down on his innocence, leading to the now-infamous rant at an assembly where he empathically stated he wasn’t going to step and offered then manager Jorge Vilda a contract extension, he eventually did resign.

Rubiales has been notified of FIFA’s decision and has 10 to “request a motivated decision, which, if requested, would subsequently be published on”

The fallout from the incident continues to roll on as Hermoso, her family and teammates have been called in to give their statement in front of the Spanish court. Rubiales has had to do the same along with Vilda.
