Tottenham negotiating for Barcelona right-back

BARCELONA, SPAIN – AUGUST 15: Emerson Royal of FC Barcelona controls the ball under pressure from Julen Lobete of Real Sociedad during the LaLiga Santander match between FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on August 15, 2021 in Barcelona, Spain. FC Barcelona will host between 20,000 and 22,000 fans in the stadium as the Regional government has authorised a capacity of 30 percent of the stadium with the requirement to maintain a meter and a half distance between people or groups of people who have tickets. Tottenham is looking to find an upgrade at right-back

After missing out on Ilaix Moriba, Tottenham is back at Barcelona trying to negotiate the signing of right-back Emerson Royal.

According to Sport, the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement with Spurs offering €23 million. Though other sources have the figure as high as €30 million plus variables.

The Premier League side is meeting with Emerson’s representatives to try to work out a deal. They are offering the player an improved salary in hopes of convincing him.

The chances of Emerson leaving Barcelona are quite high considering the amount Spurs are willing to pay.

He started in Barcelona 2-1 win over Getafe before being replaced by Sergiño Dest. He had a decent performance and is a player Ronald Koeman has trust in.

A move would be rather surprising considering the Catalans only signed him this summer from Real Betis who are due 20% should Emerson be sold.

But the club’s financial position means only a handful of players are untouchable meaning anyone can be moved on for the right price.

Tottenham laid out a previous offer that included right-back Serge Aurier, which Barcelona rejected. He is not included in their latest proposal.

Aurier has been more trouble than he’s worth during his time with Spurs. He’s a liability defensively and is good for the occasional penalty costing mistake.

Emerson stated that joining Barcelona was a dream come true. That dream may last shorter than he hoped as it is now up to him as to whether or not he leaves. Barcelona would not be opposed to keeping the Brazilian but the offer from Spurs may be too good to turn down.
